M7 "device" available

After receiving enough PM'S and private emails to choke a horse it is apparent that the numbers really do not matter but the results do . Based on the 30 something installs we did this past weekend and the overwhelming positive responce from those owners we are going to reverse out position on waiting until we had the dyno numbers and release the " device ' immediately.
That said I am going to re iterate the " device " is unbelievably simple itself but very effective in what it does.To explain it in broad strokes We had speculated that the vacuum control of the by pass valve for the supercharger could be modified for better throttle response. We had looked at the methods other people had used and thought there might be a easier way. We believe we have found it. We tried a few different valves inbedded in the vacuum line until we came upon the one we felt gave the best increase in throttle response . The super charger is brought into play much sooner than the stock configuration by virtue of the valve closing earlier and quicker than it originally did. It is as simple as that and if you don't believe us don't risk the stamps
The pictures enclosed show how simple the " device " itself is and it is why I have been saying from day one its not a big deal but what it does can be for many people. As with any Mini mod some will notice more of a improvement than others . It is a fact of Mini life all Minis are NOT created equal and some are faster than others as any one who has driven a variety of Minis can easily tell. Many thanks to all that have supported us and continue to do so. Please accept our little token of appreciation and we hope to do more for you all in the future.

OK, now we're TALKING!!!

So, what is the device?

A new tube?

A restrictor for the tube?

A vent for the tube?

Could you describe it a bit more, or do we need to wait for someone to get one in the mail and post a description.

By the way, I have a MC so this is only academically interesting to me.

So randy, is this thing hard to install, or do i simply need to take off my intake to get to it? Also, do i just send an envelope or does it need a note?

Just sned a self saddressed envelope with two stamps on it and we will figure out the rest
The install will require you getting access to the valve as the pictures allude to. Steve can do it with everything in place but he is doing it by feel alone. I think for those of us mortals we will have to remove the intercooler cover, intercooler and right side cast piece which feeds the intercooler. While you have the intercooler off it is a good time to clean that thing out in any event as it will most likely have a nice oil film on it. We will be addressing that with a new product within the month by the way

Nice work fellas!

You stuck to yer guns and for that my glass goes up to you. A little internet riot never hurt anyone. For some, the increased pulse rate may be their only form of exercise.

My envelope goes out in the morning.

Cheers!

First, thanks for clearing up the mystery!

Second, you say that it's an "insert (valve)". Do you mean it's a restrictor (nylon 'bead' with smaller diameter than the original tube), or an actual one way valve? I can see where the former would allow less vacuum pressure, or at least relieve it more quickly. A true valve, however, would either let vacuum in and not let it out, or let it out but not let it back in.

In the miata world (aftermarket Eaton SC) we spent a few years before we discovered that an idle air hose was letting about .5psi of boost go out the wrong way. A simple one way valve was the solution for that problem.

Kudos to M7 for finding the 'solution' and enlightening the community.

So what it does, is leaves the vaccuum diaprahm (bypass valve) closed longer venting some air and recirculating some air? Instead of recirculating all of the air?

Sounds a lot like the principle behind a 5050 blowoff recirc valve.

Kinda confused, but getting closer...

Will.

I had "The Device" installed on Monday. I was lucky enough to get the test drive with Randy of Webb Motorsports before & after on a fellow motorer's MCS. The difference was apparent, but not significant at all (to both Randy & I). It seems (butt dyno ***-essment only) to minimize the supercharger lag, when going to full throttle/from partial, or no throttle.

My installation included the removal of the stock intercooler cover (about 1 minute)so that the magician (Steve) could fit his hand underneath (due to the size and orientation of the Alta CAI box).
I'm afraid if I say anymore, someone may have to silence me, so I will close with this final statement:

For the price there is no better install to possibly improve your throttle/supercharger response, even if minimal, or non-existent.

It seems that the consensus is that the device may not help all in the performance area, but it will atleast improve driveability for everyone. Also, one of the best mods as far is price to performance ratio is concerned

what a groove! So simple ,yet effective. However , I am troubled ......"the device"......sounds so impersonal! I think we need to come up with a better name, Yes? Basma plooster? Ryefix #3? Trippy the light fandango? Ultimax? Come on people , help me out here! My envelope will be out tomorrow. Jock

M7,

When you say "business size envelope", do you mean 9 1/2 by 4 1/8?

Any chance you can elaborate on what is actually put in the tube? It would save people time and allow them to do the mod right away (also save you time) if they already have somthing laying around the garage that will accomplish the same thing.
