If the whole concept is to restrict the flow of that tube, then a small screw clamp pinching the tube would perform the same function, and at the same time be adjustable. Since we already know not all Minis are alike, the adjustability should be a real benefit.
Just a hunch, but maybe M7 or Randy haven't answered the technical questions in this thread, not because they wanna keep it secret but maybe because they haven't been on the forums yet. I mean, it hasn't even been a full day and I'm sure there are busy days during the week.
There's a big difference between testing a bunch of stuff to see what works ("fishing expedition"
and a focused approach that, when successful, yields a result that can be understood and explained ("scientific method"
.
There is likewise a big difference between people who just want a fix and people who want to know just HOW that fix was developed and WHY it works.
No insult intended either way, just worthy of note. Sure we all bleed the same - but to some the blood is red and to others it's composed of reticulocytes, leukocytes, and serum (among other stuff). Both interpretations are just fine...

I personally applaud the M7 guys for stepping up to the plate and providing some details.
Yes, I think the whole "big secret" approach was silly.
Yes, I'm waiting for more detailed information (like others, some of it is over my head, but I'm sure someone more technical than me will dissect it all).
Be patient - they gave us some info, give them a chance to provide the rest before you bash them for not being forthcoming.

Good morning Viet Nammmmm ! What a battlefield we have already.Man i can't imagine what it would be like if we were actually charging something for it. " Trippy delete button " almost spit up my coffee on that one  Anyway to come clean with a deep dark dirty marketing secret , yes we are using the device as a way to generate a mailing list therefore explaining exactly what it is would be counterproductive to that effort. I am not the engineer nor the inventor of the " device " but I did name it  In my haste to get the initial post out last night perhaps valve was not the proper tech term as it is more of a reducing tube inserted within the vacuum line more that a actual valve. As for the dimension of that tube I have no idea but now that you know what it is and we did the hard part you are welcome to burn your knuckles like we did and figure that out as well.To all of you that got the idea and support our efforts we thank you .

Can I send in a SASE, yet not be put on your mailing list as per the terms of the National Do Not Call list?
http://www.donotcall.gov/
I'd like to get one of the devices, but do not want to be on your mailing list. Also, I do not wish to receive any unsolicited, threatening phone calls, as Peter Horvath has made to me on more than one occasion. If you are willing to accept those terms, I'd be happy to send a SASE.
Q: My number is on the National Do Not Call Registry. After I bought something from a company, a telemarketer representing that organization called me. Is this a violation?
A: No. Even if you put your number on the National Do Not Call Registry, a company with which you have an established business relationship may call you for up to 18 months after your last purchase or delivery from it, or your last payment to it, unless you ask the company not to call again. (In that case, the company must honor your request not to call. If they subsequently call you again, they may be subject to a fine of up to $11,000.) Also, if you make an inquiry to a company or submit an application to it, for three months afterwards the company can call you. If you make a specific request to that company not to call you, however, then the company may not call you, even if you have an established business relationship with that company.
If you do not want to put your number on the national registry, you can still prohibit individual telemarketers, one by one, from calling by asking them to put you on their company’s do not call list.

DING! That's my plan. However, I probably won't dissect it unless I can't tell any difference. I don't really expect much, so all I'm out is 2 envelopes and 3 stamps. I think I can cover it.
>>I suspect the SASE is a way to generate a mailing list. Not unreasonable for the service they are providing - THAT is standard marketing.
That's pretty much what I thought when the "free" concept came up.
>>Anyway to come clean with a deep dark dirty marketing secret , yes we are using the device as a way to generate a mailing list
Nice to know I was right...

Me too!
A restrictor is a brass insert with a small hole in it. The purpose of a restrictor is to delay the time required for vacuum to travel through the connector.

Man I didn't know this had such serious reprocussions. As it would not be fair to everyone else who have no problem with being on our mailing we will have to decline your request.

Agreed on that accout countrym, and I'm sure such explanation (technical) will come... It is still 10 something in the morning in CA, so let's give it some time...
And while matters are changed for a free item, it is not so completely. One of the benefits for a vendor (the primary one, at least for a profit org) is indeed revenue, in which case this item does not qualify. Another is recogntion, or kudos for the find. Another gain, also mentioned already, is the building of an address list. These are concerns of a sound business and necessitate operations that can account for them, whether the profit is huge, minimal, or non-existant...

Put the device on Sunday and it is still working well. Boost builds faster in the 2000-~3500 rpm range. Works great if you put your foot in it too. Don't know if it will help people with stumble and yo-yo issues because I never had them. I certainly hope that it does.
It helps throttle response and driveability on the street, can that be seen on a dyno?
Randy (from m7) asked us to post our reactions to it on NAM, but he would fill in the details when they could get on a dyno this week and we all saw the firestorm that started.
We spend hundreds and thousands of dollars on mods for our beloved MINI's and here is a "free" mod that actually works - kudos to m7! And no, I don't work for them.
As to building a mailing list, I am not so certain about that since they never asked me or as far as I know any of the 30 or so local people that got the device installed.
For them, SASE is just a cheap way to get the device to the masses.

Saw something similar in the vwvortex forums where they installed a valve to restrict the vacuum signal for the exhaust system on the R32. Seems like it would work well here and offer some adjustability.

I couldn't be happier with the M7 products I have on my car. This last weekend, we took the Mini to the Mini Mania car show and the response I got on the M7 front grill and rear wing (I already have the Hamann front splitter and rear diffuser, ie. ground control^3) was 10*'s. Keep up the great work guys and I'm looking forward to putting "the gizmo/whatchamacallit/thingamajig" on my car!
thanks to M7 team my envelpoe is on its way to you ....
every one that i talk to that got this product instaled last sat. and sunday...are just raving about it ...........i am sure i will be a happy motorist too...........
