Thinner stick on weights can be found, they are like 2mm high or something and very wide. Some tire places have them.

Thread resurrection!! It's 2018. What's the latest, greatest DIY swap? Still the R56?

Just looking to see what's out there.

Still the cheapest out there without going to a BBK and even cheaper to do now that R56 parts are dead ease to find.

The R56s would be the cheapest but if you are DIY some Chevy Cobalt SS Brembos are quite good and if you can find some remanufactured calipers, almost as cheap as the R56s.

Cool!! I'll need to check this out. I currently have a set of 15" 7 holey's (I planned to use for snow tires) and a set of 16" : (don't know their designation- wonder if there is a site that catalogs the rims offered like BMW's have)

I hate to dump perfectly good lightweight rims but this car likes to go and is less inclined to stop when I want it to. SO I think I need an upgrade...

The "Poor Man" should fit fine under the 16" wheel, but I do not think its going to fit under the 15" holey's

If I have the R84 x-lite rim and the R56 brake upgrade will swap and work with these rims, what should I look at for winter tires?

I purchased the 15" holeys for winter tires. Now I'm wondering if I should sell the holeys, and use the 16" x84's for the winter tires so I can maybe move up a size to 17" - Something light, inexpensive and able to handle a wide grippy tire.

My plan is a Quaife LSD, new clutch (maybe flywheel) assembly, maybe some shock/spring work, maybe a sway bar and the brake upgrade. Does this sound right or am I missing something?

Also (sorry), the break wear sensor. If I'm doing all four rotors from the R56 s, what sensors do I get? All R56 s? R56 s front and R53 's rear? The parts guy confirmed that the wear sensor part is different from R56 s and R53 's rear.

And I need all four new ones if the working light has been tripped right?

So to be clear, my endgame is full front R56 s conversion, back just want R56 s rotors because they come in the package, and would look better to do all four.

Thanks man
I know I'm replying to a question from a few years ago, but I literally just ran into this myself. I snagged a set of R56-S calipers, rotors, pads (still with plenty of meat on them) and hoses, at the local pick-n-pull junkyard, and I grabbed the R56 wear sensor while I was there. When I disconnected the wear sensor on my R52 and tried to plug the R56-S sensor into it, it didn't match up. the connections are almost exactly the same, except the plastic interface is just slightly different. I haven't tried to install the R52 sensor into the R56 pads, but I'll snap a photo tomorrow and post it so everyone can see what I mean. So the answer to your question is: No, they're not a direct swap.

If I can get the R52 sensor to fit the R56 pads, I'll let you know that too. For now it's sleep time, tomorrow I have to figure out how to separate the hard line connection without destroying or rounding off the nuts. It's totally rusted shut and I can feel how bad it really wants to just snap.

sorry for the necrobump. I did this swap years ago but the r56 soft lines appear to have a different threaded flange (for chassis side). They work fine but I could not use the original clip to hold them to the chassis. Does anyone have a solution? I think (by memory) the r53's were smooth round while the r56 have some tabs. I can either drill the hole bigger on chassis or grind off the tabs.

this is the clip I'm talking about:

I believe WMW sells hoses that fit the R56 calipers and the R53 hard lines.
