No you don't have to peel the carpet up. Just get a flashlight and look for a small black circle. Pry it out and then pop the clutch stop in. It'll be behind the clutch pedal. You'll see the bump stop on the back of the pedal. That should line up with the clutch stop.

Installed mine yesterday and had a chance to drive a little last night. It felt really good. It will take some getting used to but I like it so far.

Six years of ownership and can NOT believe how nice 3 shims have made the clutch pedal feel.
Well worth the $10.

Installed mine today with two spacers. I haven't had a chance to drive it yet. Only issue after the 2 minute install was i couldn't locate the oem spacer when it popped out.

Just ordered mine! I've been looking for something to fix the long clutch travel ever since I got the car. Can't wait to install it.

Did anyone else have to cut the post in half? I beat up my knuckles for 5 minutes trying to get it in, but it just wouldn't go past halfway. Maybe it's a countryman thing?

Anyway, I installed it with 2 shims. I thought about trying 3, but 2 seems perfect so I'll probably leave it.

No problems with length. ;-)

Did have to shred the factory piece to get it out. Awesome mod! The pedal travel is greatly improved AND the stop just plain feels better when you thunk the pedal down.

Installed last night with two shims. Found the OEM, popped it out, inserted the BMS a little bit and stepped on the clutch pedal to insert it the rest of the way.
Like it so far. Clutch engages right off the floor with two, don't think I could drive it with three shims.

Installed with 3 shims. Have to press it hard to start but the feel with three is ****. One of my favorite mods ever tbh. It makes the os giken on/off way easier to mitigate in traffic.

Same thing for me. I thought I did something wrong on the install bc when I pressed the clutch w/o driving, it felt the same. But when I took it for a spin, I was very impressed. And yeah now I have to push my foot all the way down to start the car with 3 shims but that's not a big deal. Great product!

Mine came in the mail today, had four shims. After browsing through this thread, I pulled off the fourth and installed. The original plug tore in half, took longer getting it out than putting in the new one. Got the new one in place, about halfway up the stop. Used the clutch pedal to press it in the rest of the way. Takes a firm push to start, but figure that will get easier after the first few starts. Feels fantastic. I love cheap mods that work.

Reinstalled mine from the MCS I recently parted with and put it on the JCW on 3 shims again. I also like how this will protect the rubber liner on the car as it already had an impression on it after only having it for 3 days. This is a great mod and cheap too!

Yes the number of shims recently changed as top pad had to be made thinner this production run for some odd reason. So, 4 shims on the latest one = 3 shims on the previous. Adjust accordingly.

I have some questions about this. I ordered and installed this with 3 shims, and starting the car is a hassle unless I mash the pedal down hard. Is this generally everyones experience or does it happen more with some than others?

Another thing is I'm used to shifting with the pedal a little higher than the stop is set so unless I'm speed shifting I don't really notice a huge difference. It seems everyone is overjoyed with this mod so I wanted to see if I'm doing something wrong.

Your mileage/ clutch wear will vary.

So some might need only 3, some 2.
or 4...for the newer batch that came out.

The beauty of the stop is that it's so simple yet makes a big difference by eliminating that extra unnecessary pedal travel.

Makes finding the catch point that much easier!

bump

just read about this mod.. interested, but are you guys determining at what point the clutch is fully engaged at? it would be bad if your clutches were still even a tiny bit engaged, as it'll cause unnecessary wear on the clutch.. in other words, how far up the floor is the clutch fully disengaged?

I have; on both my BMW and MINI. I just jacked-up the drive end, started the car, put it in gear with the clutch pedal all the way down and made sure neither drive wheel was turning. Helps to have an observer to see both wheels at the same time.

gotcha.. i wonder if others are doing this as well, as i think they should be. clutch needs to be FULLY disengaged, otherwise this will do more harm than good. i'm considering it, but the clutch doesn't really bother me. the evo has a really high engagement point as well, so i'm fairly used to it
