Drivetrain Borla Sport satisfaction
Had the Borla Sport exhaust installed over the weekend at Seven during the NorCalMINIs monthly run. I have to say, it's quite a change from stock! No dynos or anything of that nature, and there are tons of threads about the power the Borla Sport makes, so I'll just give my opinion on how it feels.
Just starting the car up, you can hear the growl. Step lightly on the accelerator, and it warms up, growling louder. Upon a quick foot tap up to 5000rpm and off the gas, it screams, and then burbles down back to idle. Excellent sound, which I'm sure will improve as the exhaust gets broken in!
From inside the car, you can definitely feel and hear the rumble. It's very nice to hear the burbling and roaring sitting at a stop light just tapping the gas. Brings a smile to my face every time I do it! The off-the-line acceleration seems noticable, but it didn't seem noticable the first time I drove the car away from Seven up the hill. Only after getting back home and starting to take my favorite twisties did I feel the change from stock. It does seem to idle much nicer now, and there's no slight stutter upon take-off like before. The exhaust gases seem to flow much more freely, and it's noticable on the tach when I step on the gas!
I was originally going to get the Miltek, but the price got bumped up, and there was a deal on Borla Sport exhausts with free installation, so I jumped.
If you're in the Berkeley area and need a listen, I'd be happy to play the exhaust for you. You can compare it to a stock exhaust and a UUC exhaust that some of my coworkers have on their MINIs.
FYI, my car is equipped with Alta CAI, Alta 15% pulley, Webb/Powerchips ECU, and now a Borla exhaust round out the engine modification list. Don't plan on any more unless some creative NAMer has more engine ideas for me to throw into the pot!

I've had my Borla Sport for almost a year now. I have to say I am very happy with it. Now that it's broken in it's a little quieter in the car but I have more burble during shifts than I had before. Might just be the hotter/humid weather here in Florida. I've acutally seen very little information/reviews on the Borla Race. Randy has pretty much tossed it asside early on because of issues with the first few units. I think it's the best exhaust out there for the price/performance. I don't like the Magnaflow tips (trumpets), The Borla looks just like the Miltek in design but the Borla has nicer tips. The multipiece installation was no issue at all, everything went together quite easy and I've never experience any fitment issues or leaks.
BTW - The only benifit I see in the Miltek system is that you can get a matched header for it. Go to http://www.borla.com/lost.sales/ and fill it out specifing that you would like to see a Header for the MCS. If they get enough responses maybe they will make us a resonable header for our Borla systems!

i agree with Super_Mini, we should all fill out the form on Borla's website and try to get a reasonable USA made header for these cars.
