I hope I am not the only MCS owner who would like to see a good-looking aftermarket intercooler cover, maybe a carbon-fibre or aluminum looking cover that would dress up the engine compartment. Some added functionality like the Alta with diverter would be nice as well. I like the look of the JCW, but the stock black plastic cover looks chintzy. Anybody else? Any vendors with plans?

Proper prep work and a can of spray paint ( whatever color you choose) works wonders for a stock intercooler cover.

We are currently working on a VERY nice Carbon Fiber intercooler cover that is not just an OEM shape replacement part. It's been designed and styled to flow very nicely with the engine bay, and it adds functionality by better forming the seal with the hood scoop foam (look up).

It's going to go very nicely with our soon to be released CAI (which will have 3 variations - all including Carbon Fiber).

Minihune - Your custom cover looks great!

Dan - I look forward to seeing your product (hint hint). I would love to see photos when available. Is there an estimated price or price range you can share at this time?

No price or est. date as of right now. We are in the process of making the mold, after which production can begin almost immediately (considering everything going smoothly with the mold).

I will have pics, pricing, availability, etc. soon.

Just make it affordable so they sell. Someone has one for sale for over $450.00 if I remember correctly. Plain ol' rip off.

Yeah, I've seen that one. It's also an OEM replica, not a new design. Ours will be much less than that.

Moorlockx,
I like your red and reverse emphasis paint accent of your IC cover! I did paint the various covers as you did including my Brake fluid cover. My picture is actually and old one. I got the Pilo ignition upgrade and painted the coil as well.

jmoser,

The front tower strut brace is the BMP aluminum which is about 3.5 pounds and about $240.
There is often a debate over how much the strut brace actually can help performance.
From an appearance point of view it is attractive, easy to install, easy to keep clean but it does cramp some intake boxes-my madness intake box needed a notch cut into it so the strut bar could fit.
Be aware that some strut bars are not aluminum, can be powder coated steel (heavy) and still cost over $200.

What was the process for painting those intercooler covers? I'm assuming there's more to it than just spray painting on some heat-resistant paint.

You can get a body and paint shop to paint your cover with the OEM paint. Here's a picture of that with a keychain "S" doublesided taped to it.

If you paint your dash or door parts you can add the IC cover at the same time for pretty cheap.

Or if you look at my earlier post you'd see my own partially painted cover which I did myself. Hand painted enamel "S" in silver and red with Blue metallic indentions spray painted. You can do a light sanding after masking with tape and then apply primer Duplicolor Metalcast Ground coat (provides uniform base to plastic) a few coats then Duplicolor Metalcast metallic blue color paint (heat resistant, anodized high gloss finish). I did not clear coat but I did wax the surface. Be careful that the paint has dried thoroughly before installing the cover as the bolts will squash the paint if you tighten them down hard. Also the bolts do come loose easily so try some lock tite.

The four bolts are black but you can paint them with the same blue paint to get them to match the cover.
Tighten them down gently by firmly.

It is an old picture i took long time ago.
I painted everything myself.
I was not very experienced so i did not do a very good job.
I bought metalic paint and paint some covers and tops.
I did not have the red paint so i did not paint the S in red.
I'm waiting for the new paint come in so i can play around a bit more.
