Drivetrain muffler
I think as long as it is a bolt on system it is fine, as long as you can return it back to stock condition when the lease is up. If you weld on a muffler, they may make you purchase a new factory muffler for it.
Do you plan on buying it after the lease is finished? I'm sorry to hear you got stuck in a lease!

>>Hey, i know this is a stupid thing to ask, but, if i install an aftermarket muffler on my LEASED cooper would that be ok??
Nick,
Bolt on is OK for a lease car but keep all of the stock parts and store them in an indoor area away from harm. If you are not careful the muffler and clamps might rust. For the MC I am not sure if it is a one piece exhaust from Cat-back. If so then you can buy a cat-back system or cut the pipe and clamp on your muffler.
You might be thinking of a generic muffler but we don't really know how well that might work with an MC. Your guess is as good as anyones but it could loose power due to the wrong amount of backpressure which the MC needs.
For MC mufflers one option is the Devil sold by Diamond racing.
Before your lease is up then return the MC to stock near the end.
Have fun.
