Parts List on new mods with Q's.
Im in the process of changing out my thermostat gasket and decided to order a bunch of stuff. Some for preventative maintenance and others for upgrades. Here is what I have so far.
- NGK 54058 plug wires
- NGK BKR7EQUP plugs
- Goodyear Gatorback 4060537
- WMW Powerflex complete engine bushing set.
- WMW SC belt damper bushings
- WMW 15% SC pulley
Parts Im looking for:
- JCW 380 Injector set
Other stuff waiting to buy:
- SC oil
I had the local exhaust shop cut one of the mufflers off so its now a one ball set up. I have the R53 airbox out and am doing mods to allow more air intake like the Dave F.
I have no leaks from the engine other then the gasket from the thermostat housing. The water pump is dry and Ive tested it for pressure and its working ok. I would like to install everything listed above minus the JCW injectors. I wont be able to buy and install a set of JCW injectors for another month. I think it should run ok until I am able to get the injectors. Then the following month I am thinking about a header with 200cell hi flow cat afterwhich a tune and dyno.
I kinda want to get as much stuff out of the way now. Anything else I might be forgetting or should consider?
I'm setting my Mini up for canyon runs and long distance endurance runs. This is my driving style as a DD due to my location. I also visit my folks at least once a month and thats a good 11 hour straight one way trip with pit stops for fuel and food. So I am setting her up for pure driving pleasure with hopes of decent durability and longevity.

Ahh cool. I didnt know there was a Spokane Mini club. I hang out with one of the Puget Sound MINI clubs.
So what does that shop normally charge for the use of the dyno and then tuning?

As I recall Hank charges by the amount of time the car needs to be worked on tune wise. He uses Mynes Bytetronik so at some point you would need that setup but if you're using 380's you aren't going to have to have it tuned. I'm not sure how he tunes if you don't have the Bytetronik but I know he has done it on Minis that he tunes for racing. Bytetronik just makes it a whole lot easier and more precise.
I have the software on both my cars and they're pretty well modded and the performance increase was significant for both cars after he tuned mine.
There's a Mini Club in Spokane that meets on 1st Thurs of every mos. I'll see if I can find their info. It's inlandnwminis.com

SC oil is a standard GM part....go to any gm dealer, and they stock it for their cars that use roots style sc's. Stuff is NASTY....smells, and what it can do to you, so when the time comes, wear gloves, and play it safe.
Cost of dyno time varries, but many shops seem to charge about $100-120 for the dyno time for a tune....ar53 tune seems to be 350-400$, plus maybe an extra remote fee or tools if you need a tool to acess the computer. With pretty minor mods, a canned tune (where you ship the ecu off) will still get you a gain, and make the car run better, but not as much untimate gain as a custom tune, but lower cost...just an option.

To be honest, car eill run better with you mods, no injectors...
Jcw injectors with a 15% will be prettt rich till tuned....and the fuel will only be needed WOT, and near redline....two things a longrange highway cruiser does not do often.

This. I've been receiving a few calls from folks that want to put injectors in their cars without tunes. I would recommend waiting until you can tune the car properly before messing with fueling (or parts that can significantly impact the fuel mixture, like cams). Intuitively, a bigger injector is safe for the motor, but it can put a hurting on the catalyst, which is no cheap part.
