Just posted on motoring file some info on the new jcw kits that are going to be available.

"JCW Introduces 225hp and 265hp Works kits

Permalink / April 08, 2004 / 1 Comment

At this point JCW lists these kits for "Motorsport" only but let's hope they'll eventually be available for street use. Here's the copy that goes with the products:

"All John Cooper Motorsport products are tried, tested and developed for motorsport use only and are not intended for road use. Available exclusively from John Cooper Motorsport and are not available from MINI dealers and are not covered by MINI warranty."

JCW also has released a number of new motorosport accessories (meant for the track) which you can get a peak at here. You can check out what little information there is here.

Hopefully we'll have more info shortly."

$5000 for the 200 hp kit, any guesses as to what JCW wants for the 265 hp kit?

Bummer, loss of warranty. That was what makes the 200HP JCW so appealing to many. Sure some like having the JCW name associated with their car. Just like some by Nike shoes because of the brand name Nike...how ever I dont. I wonder what the overall torque specs are...

It's not clear to me if all of that is included in the kit, or whether that is a kit plus a bunch of other JCW accessories that can be purchased at an additional price (like how the JCW 200 hp kit doesn't come with the JCW wheels and JCW seats).

And without the warranty, it shouldn't go for much more than the 200hp JCW kit. But something tells me that's not the case...

This is probably the $5k kit.

The big kit pictured shows over $10k of product!

When is MINI going to figure out they're not selling BMWs?

Unless that's where the "M" in "MC" and "MCS" comes from...

hehehe

I am not sure it would work as well as this winch.

We don't have the price yet nor much of the actual details but I would venture to guess that the upgrade kits are about $7000 to $9000 US. Even without the warranty. How could you warranty that level of upgrades? Seems risky.

for that much money and no warranty you might be better off getting a twin charged set up and some nice coil overs.

So what am I missing here? Asides from the prerequsite mods like header, CAI, pully, porting, valves, etc., etc., there wasn't much else left to do to get the 1.6 over 240hp. Are they running a HUGE supercharger to get 265?

WOW! Looks like John Cooper will begin to offer an array of performance upgrades that are available individually or as a package. I wonder how the orders from the states are processed or if they will have vendors in the US to represent them? Since they're not covered under MINI warranty, will BMW sell those parts through their dealer network?

Looks like it might be the drop in filter. Not sure if you missed that in the lower right hand side of the picture.

Is that the picture of the 240 or 265 kit. It doesn't look like either. That kit looks like the John Cooper Works Challenge kit, which is basically the JCW kit sold at the dealers plus the necessary bodywork, wheels, suspension, brakes, and interior.

I am suprised they are offering a 265hp kit, since Cooper was heard quite often that the car was really only capable of 250hp, before major changes needed to be made to stuff like the transmission...

They appear to be the 16" R90 wheels. Does anyone else think differently?
