Instead of meth, do you have E85 in your area? That would give you a cooling effect similar to water/meth in addition to higher octane.

Also I am waiting for the day that someone runs an N12 head without DI (back to pulsed injectors on a fuel rail). Might be more tuning potential that way, as well as eliminating the carbon problem altogether. Just a side thought that came to mind looking over this thread.

Will be following to see how it turns out!
Until someone develops a full standalone ECU, good luck trying to convert the car to port fuel injection. Even with a fully built motor, the N14 will never be able to reach its full potential without a standalone.

I am excited to see MNIPWR's results though, I applaud him for keeping us all updated on his build. MNIPWR...let me know when you're gonna have Jan tune it, I'd like to be there...I'm right by the shop. It will bring back memories of when we spent countless hours tuning my MCS w/ JCW turbo

The beauty of the N12 is that it is port fuel injected (and can be coded into his R56 S). An AEM piggypack on the N12 ecu can surely handle the job. If anything, that unlocks any limits on the DI injectors as far as flow and HP.
I don't want to hijack, so on with the show .

Stand-alone is not necessary for big power and imho is not the way to go.
The MED17 ECU can be made to sing and dance if necessary. If you need more fuel than the stock system can provide when fully tuned there are a few ways to solve that problem while retaining the stock ECU.
Like anything, it depends on your intended use, power goals, and budget.

The OP should speak with his tuner about what, if any, additional changes need to be made in order to reach his goals.

Good luck and have fun.

Bosch Motorsport produces some aftermarket ECU options for the DI configuration...ECUs for controlling DI engines, DI drivers for each injector, larger injectors, HPFPs etc...
Not a cheap option though...not to mention that these will only drive the motor, not the cabin!

Port injection has been succeeded indeed in the UK by a company called MiniCraft. They converted the MTR car into port injection with a standalone ECU, aluminum intake manifold, injectors, fuel pumps, large turbo etc...
Sadly it didn't end up well..it caught fire twice while racing and no further info was shared!
There is info about this in www.minitorque.com

If they can build a WRC engine out of our block and run it with motech electronics i'm sure its fully possible to do anything we want with enough money.

Everytime i watch those WRC videos I say, "Man, that engine sounds NASTY! How can I get that engine in my car?!"

Then I remembered that I chose to be an engineer instead of a surgeon for a career choice

That will be easy to locate. Even in the dark. Blindfolded. With the hood closed... ;-)

What all services did you have them do? And can you give us a ballpark figure as to how much it was? If you don't mind of course

They cleaned everything, rebuilt everything, modified the exhaust wheel, put in a larger compressor wheel, and balanced it. It's $695+$25 for shipping.

That's a great deal for a rebuilt (and modified) turbo considering a new one is +$1800!!

Just high temp paint to resist rust and clean up the hideous heat shield.
