Scorpion R53 Cat Back Review (with video)

Some of you may have seen my previous thread I created when I couldn't figure out how to adjust the damn hangers on this exhaust. I took this video right after the advice from fellow member SPOOLED to just add some washers under the mounts which did the trick and I am very happy now. I also had a request for a review on this exhaust but heres the video and it speaks more than words. You also get a good view of the silencers in the vid. I had to order a new rear center spoiler since I had to chop up the one pictured in this video, due to melting prior to adjustment. Luckily you cant see it from this lower angle

This is definitely a great sounding exhaust. I can't believe it's not more popular considering the price. I have gotten plenty of compliments from other mini owners who love the sound of it.

How much did you pay, and where'd you get it?

I got mine from Roadrunner Motorsport in the UK. You can get it shipped to Michigan for about $750. I originally came across their listing on ebay.co.uk. I think its a great exhaust for the money.

Got mine from Bavarian Autosport in NH. Check out Bavauto.com They are the only dealer in the U.S. They have it listed for $579. This will not fit the cabrio without having spacers made to lower the rear cross brace.

You can check out my videos on YouTube. I have a rev vid when it was first put on and a dyno run from last year. Just search miniblucabrio.

Looks like I over paid a bit huh! Miniblu, I didn't realize it at first, but it was your video I was watching over and over for weeks prior to purchasing.

I really wanted something other than magnaflow or borla. The milltek is just way to pricey but it does sound really really good. I need to get a gopro so I can get some driving video. I noticed tonight that Bavauto now has the scorpion manifold with high flow cat. Looks like I found my next mod

I see you have 380 injectors and a tune, im guessing you would benefit from headers and a high flow cat. Since i have only a 15% pulley and CAI, should I consider doing ecu/injector upgrades before doing more to my exhaust?

The standard injectors on the S are probably maxed out as it is. Not sure if adding a header/high flow cat would cause the car to run lean at this point. To play it safe I'd go for the tune and larger injectors before adding a header. That and you'll get more bang from a tune than a header for the price. Then if you add a header or other parts i.e. cam, head a retune is pretty cheap from RMW. The hardest part would be getting him out to your area.

have you seen this video?

I have been listening to exhaust system after exhaust system and I think I have come to the conclusion that I like the Scorpion exhaust the best. Its nice and poppy with a low drone, or at least that how it sounds over the numerous youtube clips. This will be my first mod to my mini and I want to make it count. I was wondering which system you think i should get and if I should get anything else along with the exhaust to maximise my mini experience. I know that I also want to get a cold air intake to enhance the supercharger whine and at some point a smaller pulley. Any direction would be greatly appreciated. My boyfriend is trying to be helpful with making decisions about mods but hes only worked with Pontiacs, currently his project car is a 2006 GTO. I want to make my mini give his GTO a run for his money and I'd like to do it with little help from him getting the right parts (of course I will have him help me install my parts seeing how I had to help him with his headers and mid pipe for the goat. It was 3 days of hell! lol)

Again I want my mini to become a mini beast, loving the sound of the scorpion exhaust. Please guide my purchases for making my mini not only sound amazing but also increase the power!

For power, the pulley is the best mod hands down. Nothing like the feel of the first drive after installing and feeling that extra 15-20 hp.

What size pulley did you end up going with?

I got a 15%. Looking back now I'd have done the 17 since I don't do any tracking. I was just hesitant since I had only had the car for about 2 months when I did it and was unsure about what impact going even smaller would have on longevity. After seeing so many people with no issues on the 17% I'm inclined to believe its just as safe.

I went with the scorpion system based mostly on price and the fact that it was different from what everyone else had. I have been very happy with it. There is very little drone if any at all.

miniblucabrio: How do you like your Alta CAI? I have also been looking at CAI. Basically i want to do a stage two set up with a cat back, CAI, and smaller pulley. Your set up minus the injectors is pretty much what I am looking at.

Lotta people dig the Alta, its loud. As an aside, I really think the DDMWorks and Dinan have some of the best construction quality out there. Depends what you want, really. Dinan almost looks stock, and I really dig that.

I'll chime in too...I looooooove my Alta CAI. High quality, easy install and the sc whine is very audible!!

I've got the alta as well...the whine is intoxicating with a reduction pulley. With the windows down I don't have trouble hearing the sc before I'm even in boost.

The alta is nice but I actually changed out the filter to an AEM dry flow filter. No oil is needed when cleaning it. The DDM filter is also a very nice setup. Keep an eye on the classified section. Used intakes come up for sale pretty often. An intake, exhaust and a 17% pulley will put you at about 175hp at the wheels. At least that's what mine showed with those mods.

It should have everything you need. Where are you located? I'm in CT and should have my exhaust up for sale in a couple months. PM me if you're interested.
