Exhaust options / advice

So i currently have a one ball mod and was thinking about upgrading the exhaust but am going cheap the two are on ebay, one being by obx and the other is just a clone. Both are within $250 shipped. Will the exhaust from ebay be an improvement over the one baller I have now? Thanks for the help. Also not looking at the overpriced ($400+) exhaust.

Wow, be glad you live where you are. An exhaust in Canada for a standard cooper starts at $600. The cooper s ones are in the $1,200 and up range. The stock S exhaust is 8-1200 at the dealer I think.

Honestly isnt going to help you. Gains from one ball have been debates but shouldnt be more than a couple ponies. What you mostly get is weight savings which youd give back up adding a dual muffler exhaust like obx or similar.

Why not go for obx header. One ball exhaust is fine as it is. Add a header and weld your oem cat onto the test pipe flanges and now you've got a good budget exhaust worth roughly 10 ponies.
The header will also add extra exhaust sound if thats what you're goimg for.

agreed
unless your just looking for a different sound theres no gains. stick with the one ball since its already done and your on a budget. save for the header

I find that statement a tad ironic, as OBX is, itself, a SuperSprint copy. I'm not sure if OBX are still producing headers without the flex joint, but don't cheap out on that. There have been many reports of cracking on the non-flex joint models, for obvious reasons.

Good luck, and let us know how you like it.

I meant that the other exhaust didnt have a name linked to it. They are both clones.

There are other headers that have the flex part on ebay but they are 4 into 1 where obx is 4-2-1 piping. Which would be better? Anyone have problems with the other one?

I see a lot of exhausts go up for sale out in CA. Hang on to some money, be patient, and a worthwhile exhaust will be found. Go for good names– Borla, Magnaflow, Milltek, Stratmosphere/Invidia... you know what I mean. Worth the time/energy versus poor quality eBay specials.

You were pretty clear, I was just being a wisenheimer.

I believe the answer to which header design is better is subjective. I think it depends on the RPM range in which you are looking to maximize power. I could very well be backwards, but I think I recall the 4 into 1 designs will outperform the tri-Ys at high RPM, and the tri-Y will scavenge and create more torque at lower (midrange) RPMs. But I don't know the exact ranges, and I'm sure it varies between manufacturer. It would probably be counter productive to mate a low RPM header to a high RPM camshaft. The factory is 4 into 1 but has shorter primary runners than the aftermarket (catless) offerings. Long runners will boost low end, so the factory piece could be considered a loose / loose from the above perspective.
