Ok, i am getting all these installed on ONE day, one-shot deal....

*Alta 15% pulley
*alta exhaust
*alta swaybar
*alta intake

would you say with that setup that i would NEED to do an upgrade at the ignition? i dont mean should, i mean NEED. i plan on doing that next, but i need to know if i should do that at the same time or if it can wait a month or two. i have heard all the horror stories of plugs and plugwires, etc.... don't know if thats related to mods or b/c of the brand of plugs, etc

so, do i NEED to purchase new plugs and wires and/or coilpack to effectively run these mods?

thanks

no, you don't NEED to change anything with your ignition system.

uhh, is your mind set in stone on the ALTA exhaust? The other products, thumbs up all the way, but the exhaust.......

No, you don't really "need" any ignition upgrades. But, colder plugs would help. Also, I'd complete this "instant gratification " with an ECU remap like Webb/Powerchip....that extra 10-15 hp will be noticable

Any customer dynos to back up that Webb/Powerchip claim? Likewise, any customer dynos to back up any of the ignition claims?

Good boy Andy.

Testing makes the world-go-round, the world-go-round, the world-go-round.

My "BUTT" Dyno plotter is outta ink
OT Andy, but did your guage panel come with hardware? Mine didn't and I'm guessing it needs to screwed down.

Mine didn't come with hardware. I didn't like the way it was angled if I used a screw in the back, so I secured it with self-adhesive velcro.

On the sides, you can see it in this pic:

I could have placed it further back to keep it from being visible at all, but I don't find it too noticeable as it is.

thanks for the advice.

i want an ECU, but outta funds with all the stuff i'll be doing... that will be next.
i am set on the Alta for many reasons, some of which i'll list below:

1) price (i'm getting it for $630 new)
2) weight (its only 22 lbs)
3) single-side (i've heard sound clips of the single-side exhausts, i like the sound)
4) they've FIXED the fitment problems and discoloration problems
5) (and this is the biggest reason) - i can't receive this stuff at home via shipment or the wife will FREAK. the local mini performance shop only carried alta, so i've come to terms with making this decision.

i would rather take the alta exhast over nothing!

the other exhausts out there i have eliminated for various personal reasons, as follows:
1) Milltek - too expensive and always seemingly long wait to get one
2) quicksilver - don't like the tip!
3) scorpion - BMP is out ATM and.... well.... this was my 2nd choice behind the alta actually... but i like the alta tips better
4) Borla - another good candidate, but again, liked the tips of the alta better.
5) NRP - not as nice tips as alta. local dealer doesn't carry it
6) UUC - wayyy too loud for my tastes
7) supersprint - LoL, yeah right! $$

thats the way it is panning out for me.

How about a professionally aged and heat-cycled Magnaflow?

and knowing that its you, i'd want to see graphs of these "professional" aging and heat-treating!

FYI ABTsportsline fitment is still a problem on my install of the Alta catback. I still like the sound.

are you thinking the single sided exhaust will go un-noticed? Or does she just hate packages arriving?

no, you don't NEED to change anything with your ignition system.
Ryephile is right. You definitely don't need to change MINI's ignition system. You probably never need to do that. But to answer your next question, you probably shouldn't change it either.

I agree.

If you do your proposed mods listed then I would suggest you leave all else alone for awhile and just get to drive your MCS.
Ignition upgrades of all sorts are not a requirement although some owners have done it. According to HELIX13 there is no dyno evidence that they have seen to support changing anything in the ignition system.

Also, wait on the ECU upgrade for now and at some point later you can consider your options for:
PowerChip
EvoTech
GIAC (soon)
others
There is no rush since most of your gains will be with your current set of mods.
Let them have a price war.

As for your choices of upgrades. I understand why you are interested in Alta.
Quicksilver is not in the same price range at $799 and does come in a dual tip and with a sport muffler option. I think you will be OK with the Alta.

Good luck and enjoy.

ABT, I saw Bruno asking one of the techs how to remove that annoying top end limiter. Don’t worry; I am lending him my V1 for the trip.

keymini - NO!!!!
keep all limiters on there! in fact put a top speed limiter of 80 on there for bruno for the trip over here! he will not be thrashing my car!
(tell bruno this isn't like his Z06....)
well, he can speed, but NOT over 100! give him that V-1!

for those not in the know - keymini is a mini salesman who turned me away when i told him i wanted him to sell me a car. (take that key)

and jlm, to avoid confusion, i was getting the alta exhaust b/c its the only version the local performance dealer carries... hence no shipment!

thanks for the help guys.
thanks minihune.

and ryan - what don't you like about the alta exhaust? i can deal with the 3-4 hp loss over the milltek, if that.

dennisyvonne - i think i already mentioned in the other thread this came up, but they have fixed fitment and coloration problems - just call Terry Sayther and ask them... they just got a new shipment in. there is a possibility that your "new" alta exhaust was from an old stock.

cheers all!

you got yours done at Terry Sayther? i just got done talking to Terry and Duncan (one of the mechanics), and they said alta has "remedied" the problem... all of the alta exhausts at Sayther's have the fitment fix and gold tips, etc....

if you got yours done at Sayther's and have that fitment problem and discolored tips problem (and it was done recently), maybe you should take it back and ask for the BRAND brand new one. if you didn't get yours done there, i personally am not concerned about my future version b/c they claim they have the new fixed editions of the alta.

Cheers
