Thanks for starting this Thread!

Everything I have heard is that if it is NOT A JCW then the 2011+ "S" engines are N-18.

It would really suck if there were different ECU Protocols--

Unfortunately this not uncommon among MFG's Honda/Acura did it with the K series cars back in early 2000, V.A.G did it on the 10,11,12 MKVI cars that all have the TSI motor. Each year for them was a new more difficult security protocol from the prior and a new ecu design. There are prob others but these are the ones I have had experience with. Its very easy for them to change ECU design and protocols mid model even thou the previous year had the same drivetrain.

As far as the motors go up until September'ish all new S cars come with the N18 then "NEW Countryman JCW" debuts with the factory JCW N18 motor and from there it will roll out to the rest of the JCW family cars.

Once these have rolled out it will probably be it for development on the MKII chassis and drivetrains since the new MKIII MINI is already in development and due to come in 13 as a 14 model maybe sooner maybe later.

Just wana keep everyone informed this is the email I got from NM:
Hello,

Thank you for the inquiry and my apology for the late reply. We do have the program but we are still running beta versions on our test cars. We are planning to release them sometimes next month. The program for the 6-speed has actually been running smoothly without any issue, and we can safely put it as our final tune. We however still have a little bit shifting issue on the automatic one. The torque converter shift the gears slightly too early when the car is driven under 'D' mode. But really smooth under sport or tip.

So please check back with us sometimes mid next month. The ECU needs to be shipped to us for the procedure, which unfortunately means that your car will be out of commission for a few days.

Please do not hesitate to contact us again should you have any other questions.

Best regards,
Jerry T
NM Eng.

This is the email from RennTech:
Thank you for the inquiry regarding RENNtech upgrades for the Mini.

All that is needed is to remove the ECU and send it to us. It will be reprogrammed and sent back to you overnight.

Not sure who I wana go with. Renn is $945 and NM is suppesed to be $500
Renn says 221hp and 232tq
NM (from the article) says 202hp and 210tq

Renntech doesn't say wheel horsepower though so you have to factor that

From what I heard, the issue is with contract negotiations between Alta and Cobb to deliver the information and therefore the tune so that the 2011+ MCS can be an option. Kinda sucks.

The individual at Cobb said that it's probably another 3 months at least from this point.

I can deal with waiting, i'm just interested in seeing that it's definite that it will happen

i still would like to see what kinda performance gains I can expect in terms other then horsepower. like 0-60 and 40-80 times because engine tuning really is to improve those numbers. The other things like cornering and such we already have.

Why is this to speculative to you?? As of this point I would not put it past either company to be arguing over contracts(read MONEY) as the reason why the AP hasnt been released for the 11+ cars. Its clearly not that the new ECUs cant be broken at least for the 11 cars, we still don't know about the 12 cars ECU protocols yet.

The uncertainty associated with the "if" and "when" Alta will have downloadable tunes for the N18 is just that - speculative. Coupling that with the fact the poster indicated he heard that "contract negotiations" with Cobb was at the heart of the issue from in unidentified source makes it too speculative for me. I am aware of too many instances in which tuners have indicated a product is coming out any day now, soon, or once legal/contractual matters have been resolved and still nothing is released even a year later.

I posted on Cobb's facebook page asking if there was a time table for the 2011+ Cooper S and they said " No ETA on 2011+ Mini support right now, sorry! - Ian"

I'm relaying the information that was told to me from an employee @ Cobb when I called and asked (trying to get it as a gift for my girlfriend).

I have been waiting since December 2010 for the 2011 "S" Tune, as stated by ALta "about April 2011 it will be available". They have since changed their web site to read indefinite.

At this point it seems like owning 2 ECU's and sending one off for Tuning and using the other for the dealership interaction, if that is even possible!

Did you get the 2nd ECU to do it?

My AP has a year worth of dust on it...

Thanks for the Link!

Are you going to get a dealership to recode the temporary used one?

Where I buy it from, they're suppose to be sending it to the dealer to program. I just gotta provide my vin.

I presume you decided to use Jan/RMW? Regardless, why did you pick the tuner you did over the other; just curious.
