more on twincharged...

I was wondering if anyone has actually used the helix turbo thing? I saw it mentioned in one of these threads, but no info on it. heres the link to their kit, and it's only $4800.

was wondering if this package is as sweet as they promise. seems like with the JCW kit(or equivalent) and this Helix turbokompressor kit combined you should definitely be pushin' some poeple outta da way when going to work in the morning...lol

Also I am in orlando, and one of the guys at our mini dealer has supposedly added turbo to his MCS and has over 300hp, but I havn't gotten to meet him or see it yet, just heresay so far.

Why don't you guys with the turbos get together and video tape your beasts in action?

Why let the SRT forums have all the fun:smile:

SPI has already did that. There's at least three different vids (links in other threads) of their car in action. At least one on the dyno, at least one of the drag strip, and at least one on the road course. *yoda* Do a search, and find you will, hmmm? */yoda*

How much did the mandatory installation fee run you?

This is my biggest problem with the Helix kit. I despise paying someone else to turn a wrench - especially at typical shop rates.

Yowch, that's an angry post. We don't have a mandatory installation fee, although we also don't have installation instructions either--that would be a lot writing for an illiterate mechanic.

It is our goal to have installers around the country, as well as make it available to the competent home mechanic. It's no small job however: this ain't putting in a pulley. I would want to talk to anybody wanting to attempt to put the TurboKompressor kit in their car first. Some of the tools needed: Metal Cutting, Welder, Tensioner, Pullers, Soldering, Air Tools (would help), Lift (would help), custom cut wrenches, along with floor jack and hand tools.

We flat rate the installation at 12 hours (ours is $75/hour), although it takes us well more to complete the kit.

Have fun putting together your own kit then. Let us know how it turns out when you're done.

It wasn't really meant to be.

Apparently I'm misreading
At this time, the TurboKompressor kit is only available for installation at our Philadelphia facility. Please inquire about options for car shipment and delivery.
I took this to mean that it had to be installed in Phili. Your post contradicts this though - although if you've got no documentation of any kind, you're probably not expecting to sell any non-installed.

JLM, you mean someone's actually expecting a warranty from something like a turbo kit? That's pretty optimistic.

That sounds like a pretty fair rate to me.

my guess is that Helix and SPI would stand behind their product and install, to the extent that they would re-tune, cover re-fitting anything that let go, and offer tech support, and help shase down any OEM warranty issues; but consider how that could eat them up if they offerered the same to the DIY'er who chose to do his own wrenching, tweaking, tuning.

I'm not stupid if that's what you mean!!
Seen them and it doesn't show me anything about the speed on the road or track.

The best one is the M7 Mini in the best motoring dvd.
It should be more of a *** type of shoot... lots of info and comparisons.

We don't even have a 0-100km/h yet
Why? Shouldn't someone do one with a gps device
Shouldn't the Mini be considered an import? We need more coverage

Stupidity is not based on the no. of posts I've got

Dude, whoa!! Take a chill pill and then another one if that doesn't help. No one ever said you were stupid.

Go back and take a quick peek at the drag strip vid. It clearly shows the speed on the track. I guess I don't understand what your point is. If the 1/4 mile time and top speed are not showing you the speed on the track, then I really don't know what will. Please explain yourself a little more as to what vid doesn't show speed on the track or road course?

FWIW, Eric and the Helix staff would be on the phones ALL DAY LONG offering tech support, not to mention SOPs for every tool imaginable, if they were to sell these without - and most likely, even WITH - instructions. $900 is probably worth it for purchasers as far as installation goes. It would be for me, having BTDT with custom kits for other cars. If you're looking to save a buck by doing it yourself, which I usually am, sometimes the investment in tools that will be used exactly once ends up costing almost as much as professional installation. Plus, snags aren't as easy for the shade-tree mechanic to undo. Doing it right the first time pays its dividends in peace of mind MANY TIMES OVER!

I'm curious, Eric. As this system is installed in your shop, is a tune up on your dyno part of the labor since it's already there? If not, how do you do check the performance of the completed work?

Thanks,
Sid

I didn't need the sarcasm in your post and I'd like to drop it here..
My mistake I ever posted.

Sarcasm:
  1. A cutting, often ironic remark intended to wound.
  2. A form of wit that is marked by the use of sarcastic language and is intended to make its victim the butt of contempt or ridicule.
Anyone, please, anyone, please, please point out to me where there was any intent to wound or intent of contempt or ridicule in my above posting. Evidently I don't know I am typing with sarcasm. I don't want to be typing with sarcasm. I want it to stop. So, evidently there is strong sarcasm in my words above that offended uae mini
