BlwnAway - I do have the Bando 6PK1410. It's the one that is slipping. I think I may buy another and perhaps get a BMW tensioner as well.

Minian, I went & found the Service Bulletin about this, check to see what belt you were using with the 69mm pulley, according to the sheet, some of the kits were sent with the 6PK1420 & should have been the 6PK1415, the extra lenght of the 1420 was allowing slipage and some "bounce" in the system which in turn caused pre-mature wear of the piston due to travel out of it's spec.

And yes, don't know how many times I've seen two of the same sized belts where one slipped & one didn't. Let us know.

I started doing some dissassembly today and want to give all the Sprintex owners a reminder:

When removing your belt be VERY CAUTIOUS with the tensioner system, the Piston will "pop"/Over Expand very easily, I've now popped 2 simply because it slipped my mind.

Maybe it might be a good idea to just have an extra piston around.
Again:
Tensioner Piston: Gates #38217
BMW 750i '86-'94 E-32
BMW 850i '90-'95 E-35
Just in case, hate to have the car down for a couple of days, just to wait on a part because of a simple mistake.

Anyway, just an F.Y.I. for all of my Sprintexian friends.

What are you using as your tensioner tool? The one provided with the kit ? I was given a piece of flat iron that hit the control arm and wouldnt go any further, it was the perfect flex.

I'm using the one provided, but I slightly modified it when I was having trouble with a slipping belt & needing to colapse the tensioner as much as possible to try & make the next size smaller fit. (just early experimenting)
But thats not the issue, my problem is since I of course don't change belts offten, I keep forgetting about the tensioner pistons being a little touchy when it comes to releasing it (letting it expand back out) with no belt on it, if you let it expand too quickly it will come apart from the inside, it's basiclly just held together by a C clip type setup & if it expands with just the internal spring tension & no force such as the tool or a belt to hold it back slightly it will in so many words, pop the clip.

It's my own fault, I just keep forgetting and let it go to quickly & realised how a spare piston lying in the drawer might really come in handy on maintenance day.

Oh, okay. I wasn't exactly certain what you meant. Makes more sense now. I've always done slow release due to the thought I don't want anything else breaking while I'm fixing the most recent defect. Lol.

I have put roughly 26k miles on my Sprintex setup with the Electric Waterpump and have not seen any issues... Idk how many hours that would calculate to.... Its traffic hours, idle time and normal freeway with an average cruise around 68mph

34k on mine before the head issue, so if you figure I do a lot of hwy, and avg. about 45mph that would be just over 750hrs. So I guess with idle time & other factors you could prob. figure 45k per 1000hrs for me, but I'm sure most peoples avg's are lower than mine, but I would think a minimum of 25-30k per 1000hrs.

I know I'm not the norm about some of this stuff but with all the benifits, the consistant circulation even at low speeds, and the additional 5 min. of run time after the motor is off, I'd still want to have it, even if it had to be replaced every 50k or so.

With those numbers.. its every 135k which is more than my original setup lasted and ayleast its expected to fail by then rather than sneaking up on ya.. and the 5extra min of runtime is great! Don't leave an engine as hot as long ... Faster cooldowns are great when done the right way, as this does. Its a great setup either way !!

sounds good does the kit come with the controller? becsaue i just plan on doing only the waterpump. and the contorller for the pump bumps the price up quite a bit.

Yup, a lot of good it does for the fan to stay on in extreme situations when the coolant is sitting there stagnant.

Nope, no controller for us, just on @ full speed when the ECU is on (wired that way)(unless there's something wired in that I don't know of), thats why I mentioned consistant circulation @ low speeds, hell you can sit & idle in stop-n-go traffic and you're still getting full speed coolant circulation.
Oh, my other favorite thing, filling & bleeding the system without the motor running. (unless you need to open the thermostat of course)

Yep! All benefits. We are going thru quite a summer in the SF bay. Area and I've been in traffic for hours with 100+ I've seen 111 degrees while in traffic and no issues with heat ... Its amazing ! Nothing worse than baking in a car that might be ready to fail... I don't feel that way anymore !

Wow. Just had a read through this thread. I want a Sprintex.
My car does 244HP now at a 7500 redline on a Dynojet.
I have a bunch of RMW parts - RMW tune, head and cam and shorty header. Miltek exhaust. 500cc injectors. GP IC. DDM CAI. Love the power the car is making but saving up for the next big mod. What sort of power increase did people see going from heavily modified to heavily modified with Sprintex? 20-30HP?

an electric water pump is an electric water pump. Just find one that fits wherever you want to put it and does the flowrate you want (or a little more) and slot it in. Jegs has TONS on EWP's

http://www.jegs.com/c/Water-Pumps_El...10135/10002/-1

Remember though, you pay for quality, you pay even more for a name.

Hello guys.
Anyone tried to setup stock tensioner with sprintex?
It seems to me that stock tensioner will fit with 60mm pulley?

Hey Guys

Anyone tried out the Gates Racing Belts? They're made with a grippier compound. The part number for the 06 MCS is K060547RB, The color of the belt is blue. They're a bit expensive, but if there's no slippage I'm game. Now if I can just find the equivalent to the Sprintex 64mm belt.

I know a guy here that uses them on his M45... Pretty good belts from what I have seen, but out of the 3 he bought (all the same belt, same part # on the belt) 2 of them where different sizes! And not just a millimeter or two... We are talking like 3/8 of an inch!
