camshaft replacement question

So I'm installing a Thumper TPR-2 head and RMW Camshaft next week. After reading some of the threads on here I know I should replaced the Camshaft Sprocket bolt and the chain tensioner just to be safe, but the dealership is telling me that I also need to replace the camshaft chain and rails as well. Do the camshaft chain and rails need to be replaced?

Don't have an answer for you but I'm interested. Are you planning to get it tuned and dynoed after?

Yea I'm planning on bringing it up to RMW to have Jan tune it for me. This was all supposed to be done a month ago but I ran into some issues and had to postpone the install

It's not needed unless they are worn. Typicaly if the car doesn't have a ton of miles and the chain is not slapping around then it's ok. It's not always necessary to change the bolt and tensioner either, but they are cheap enough and need to come out so it's one of those why not situations.

Yea thats what I thought. It only has 18,000 miles on it so the chain and rails should be fine.

I never got to test out the NS1 cam because the day I went to install the head and cam I found out that the used TPR-2 I bought off somone here on NAM was badly damaged. So I had to get my money back and buy a new TPR-2 from Thumper which comes in next week. I decided to sell the NS1 cam and go with the RMW street cam and have Jan tune it. So this has all been a very long drawn out process. BTW what kind of power are you putting down at the wheel with the TPR2/NS1 combo?

Can I ask what made you decide a Newman cam? I'm up in the air and want a new cam myself. Thanks

I got the newman because it is not a regrind. After talking with Jan at RMW he said that grinding down the cam could cause misfires. He also said that the RMW Street cam has been shown to make more power then the NS1 when tuned properly. So since I'm bringing my car to Jan anyways to have it tuned i figured I should buy his cam so that I can maximize power and reliability.
