DIY intercooler water-sprayer... who else has done this?
Hey all,
Well I had another one of those boring summer nights at home, and had an old windshield sprayer motor, a switch, some irigation plumbing, and some wires laying around in my garage so I decided to DIY an intercooler sprayer. Now I know i could have gone the easy route that most other people go for and just re-route the rear windshield sprayer, but I use that sprayer all the time and I didn't want antifreeze all over my engine. So I used a spare washer pump and epoxy'd it to the bottom of a plastic bottle, then cut out a hole next to my mirror adjuster and put a little switch in to control it. It took some time, but Im really happy with how it turned out. I'd post pictures, but I honestly don't really see the point... Anywho, I was wondering who else decided to DIY the whole thing? Surely I am not the first person who decided to do this...?

Many folks have gone a similar route...
most just used the rear wiper resiviour/pump....(it not used if the rearwasher wiperis deleted)
The alta diverter even appear had fittings to hook it up this way.
Antifreeze? !
Most wash fluid is methanol and water...with you living in CA, it up is just water and soap (much less methanol duel to ca VOC and the carb rules). The methanol actuly would work better for cooling...
Congrats seems like a cool system..
The washer fluid bottle is kinda small, and using the washer switch less than ideal...so your solution might be better in some ways...

the thing is, methanol, MeOH, is a very volatile liquid, and while if kept at a pressure higher than its vapor pressure it can be a good organic solvent, in open atmosphere it doesn't work to well as an organic solvent which is why its good for cooling. De-natured alcohol on the other hand, while very volatile as well, is a much better solvent at atmospheric pressure, and has the potential to fade plastics over time, as well as if you have your inter cooler painted, may fade or wear away at the paint (this is in theory, since your young you should be going through organic fairly soon, I'm only 20 and have taken several years of it) example. The boiling point of methanol is 65 °C while isopropyl alcohol is 82.5 °C. So in other words, methanol is more volatile, thus will do a better job at evaporative cooling.

Be careful with the mix you run....
I would not use more than 30% or so byvolume any alcohol.....
Due to the ic placement, there is the chance of fire from the vapors or even unevoporated liquid....the excess liquid will drip onto very hot surfaces....and vapors will blow over other hot stuff...so plain water, maybe some methanol, might be best.

. Im pretty satisfied with it, it was basically free. I bought the washer pump a while back on ebay for like.. 10$ shipped. Everything else was just left-over parts. And on the plus side, I can notice a bit more CAI whine due to the fact that I poked through the little wire grommit right by it. YES! free sound
. Haha honestly this mod isn't really as big of a deal as I convinced myself it would be... but I was bored

Cryo-co2 or something to that effects makes a system that the sprays co2 on the ic (think of a liquid fire extquinsher getting sprayed...you get the refilled at the same place, same stuff)..it works great, and is a bit of a show too!! But recurringcosts of the refill, plusthe system costs kinda limits the use to showing off, and group runs....water and washer fluid is cheaper!!
