R56S Hard Air Intake Pipe?

Was searching across Ebay looking for a JCW hard intake pipe before I buy one new, and came across this...anyone ever seen one or how it fits? Apparently it's stainless steel:

ALTA started carrying a hard pipe. Their products are good for the price, it's $209, $80 more than the random stainless one...

IMO, if they aren't a vendor on NAM, I would be cautious when purchasing their products. R&D goes in to most pipes manufactured and if they aren't built right, the flow could be disrupted to the turbo and can cause problems with your performance. MINI downpipes are made to create a certain airflow path in to the turbo, so if it doesn't do that, it's bad, or can be bad...

A hard pipe is really overkill for a turbo that's in the R56 S. It just doesn't suck enough air to justify using metal.

Humm, the stainless one is actually $80 cheaper than the plastic one.

You just have to pay a few bucks to be a NAM vendor and there have been some "interesting" ones over the years. So discount that.

R&D! That is you and I generally.

I've never been 100% satisfied with the braided silicone intake tube from Alta but mine hasn't failed me yet (knock knock). There isn't enough 'meat' at the turbo attachment point IMHO. Cutting it 1/2" longer would do wonders.

A hard pipe would be OK, but as others have stated already, the R56/JCW turbos don't warrant one.

Not a terrible price. Go for it.

Why is this an option? Are you seeing collapsing of the OEM inlet pipe (I'd be SHOCKED is that's the case)?
Or just removing the 'ridges' from the standard S-inlet pipe?

This is the one we've been upgrading to: http://www.waymotorworks.com/jcw-tur...5-r56-r57.html

It's very cost effective, fits everytime and dealers never bother customers about it being on the car.

Has anyone made one by any chance? It looks like it would be easy to fabricate.

I stand corrected in not knowing the factory JCW tube was hard plastic.

Spend the extra and get a genuine MINI part. Way is good people.

Yep, been looking at that, and I'm going to order it just as soon as I'm done posting here. It's what I want, but just breezing ebay I came across this one I posted.

By the Way....still loving my reprograms you did on my car at AMVIV, many thanks again! I'm the all Chili Red you worked on Thursday morning....

Be looking for my pipe order here in just a few...

Pat

Nope, no collapsing...and quite frankly I was never even looking at buying this, just posting it because I came across it is all. Getting me a JCW pipe to eliminate the ridges and rubber consistency of the S pipe.

I already have a JCW CAI with an Amsoil dry reusable cone filter, figured I'd compliment the intake with a JCW hard pipe....because it's what I like to do.

Anyone have any experience with the new Alta hard pipe yet? My biggest concern is fitment.

Alta pipe looks okay but I hate the rubber adapters and the metal hose connectors. They look so ..... aftermarket...

R&D, you mean like their silicone intake hose, hot side boost tube, cold side boost tube, 1st generation intake housing, bov, UNICHIP and whatever else I can't think of on their list of products that were "R&D'd" before being released to the public, then the public R&D'd it and found out how flawed some of them were, and half of whom got screwed out of returns and or successful conclusions, followed by the subject products being pulled off the site. Just because one is a vendor on here does not mean their products are good. over 50% of whats sold on here is soley based on marketing and how good they can make them sound. Like 10 whp on a "COLD" air intake and gaining HP on a fmic, lol.

And just to add, I have a Magnaflow exhaust, eibach swaybar, bilstein struts, Tires from Discount Tire, Wheels from Discount Tire, GTSpec Strut Bar, etc etc, and none of them are vendors here. Should I be worried? I've never seen a fluid flow analysis from any vendor for their products, being inlet pipes or downpipes or exhausts, just a lot of marketing that shows "Instant 10 whp gain! Perfect for street or track use, etc etc" Just my opinion, worth a grain of salt.

Way, that looks like the OEM pipe from the 2011+'s.

Not to hijakc the thread, but I remember reading something about needing an O-ring to fit the JCW hard pipe on a MCS. Without it you could run in to serious problems with the turbo.

Does anybody know if this "O-Ring" or seal is something you have to order, or is it a piece that comes off the stock MCS piping?

As a general rule, a plastic intake pipe is much better than metal: the metal acts as a passive heater for your intake charge air--not what you want.

I got the one from Way with a clamp from DoS. Fits perfectly and it's "SLIGHTLY" bigger.

Some members had their pipe came off using the MSC clamp with JCW Tube.

Have the Alta hard pipe solely for the reason that my stock pipe kept slipping away from the turbo even after cleaning and new clamps. Perfect fit and makes a nice sound paired to the CAI

Sorry if I may be stupid, but if the pipe is made in titanium, would that be better than the factory plastic pipe by any chance?
