Discharge and Air Charge Pipes

I have a quick general question ... Is it worth upgrading these two parts of the car ?? I do plan on one day down the road replacing the intercooler, with a much larger one. But for now I wanted to do the smaller things first before the major ones, such as replacing these two tubes ... Do you guys think its worth replacing and do you really get a HP increase with just the tubes not the intercooler ?? Here are the two im thinking of getting:

NM Air Charge Pipe: http://www.nm-eng.com/254/11/0/2444/...arge-pipe.html

NM Discharge pipe: http://www.nm-eng.com/254/11/0/1457/...arge-pipe.html

What do you guys think, worth the money ?? I am not taking a vacation this summer so kind of justifying it by really modding the car

I personally am all about efficiency. By changing these pipes you allow your charge system to be much more efficient overall which can lead to faster spools, better performance, etc. So I upgraded all of mine, just to know that in the end i would be getting everything i could out of my car.

+1 to boosted mini

I will also add I have both, you will not see Wheel HP's from these pipes. Save and get the intercooler, these pipes will only assist with spool time as you making a "cleaner" path for air to pass through.

yeah I read that the OEM ones have filters that make for not a smooth exit and entrance for air ... The intercooler will be something I purchase soon but I'm thinking about getting these now ... anyone have any other recommendation other then NM ?? Ive read nothing but great reviews about them ...

You read incorrectly, there are no filters within any of the pipes. the hot side pipe as a muffler built in to the pipe to help reduce noise, the COLD**(rohicks) side has an extension to help accentuate engine noise inside the cabin. All part of acoustics tuning.

They are just pieces of pipe. buy which ever you like best, or make your own at www.siliconeintakes.com

that's what i was trying to get at...not trying to knock the piping, but it's just not bang for the buck for an initial mod.

^^yeah I thought the same waiting for Alta to come up with the Accessport for the '11 MCS (thats bang for buck) so figured I would get the tube and keep the mod bug at bay for now.

the mods that i constantly read about are the tune and the fmic. i bought an alta fmic before my plates came in for my car. i haven't put it on yet...there are a few more pieces i'd like to get before getting down and dirty with the mods. i want either a scangauge or an garmin ecoroute so i can see how well the fmic works. i'd also like to get a 2-in-1 boost/oil pressure gauge for monitoring purposes. too many scary stories of timing chain tensioners undoing themselves, so i figure an oil pressure gauge would be good for that. after those mods, maybe the rear sway bar and then a tune. intake/pipes/exhaust would come sometime after that, if i decide to do them. and then finally, maybe the alta 56 turbo. that would be my ideal progression of mods.

fmic and tune, altho both are considerably more costly. so they may not have been viable options.

A rear sway bar? Lowering springs? track day or 2?

Realistically you should save and get a FMIC. The pipes and "CAIS" are just acoustical mods. I Bought them because i had the money lying around and "needed" to buy something. They might help with spool and removing the noisemaker might let you spile .5 psi higher if that(boost is target controlled so regardless of mods the engine will get to the set boost meaning it will lower boost accordingly in this case.). For the money they arent worth it

Your not gonna feel a thing different, and what your gonna feel after you see your recipts and dont feel anything... thats the hard part to get over.

i did end up getting both of them and to be honest i got a good deal on them ... The next big mod thing i do is an intercooler for sure ... as far as a rear sway bar the stock one is fine but that shall soon be changed as well down the road ... these two cheap upgrades will improve the efficiency of air flow a little bit thanks again guys !!
