Whats the best canned tune out there?

hey guys im new to the whole mini scene. i just got my 02 cooper s a week ago and i have been researching ever since.

im probably going to do the following power mods

15% pulley
CAI
Catback exhaust
Cams

so i was thinking about topping it off with a canned tune . something like a shark injector where i can do it myself but which i could take off if i ever wanted to return the car to stock some day to sell. Is there anything out there better then the shark injector?

thanks guys

None of these types of canned tunes are worth the money. Way to many variables for them to try and optimize. Stick with stock tune until you can get a custom dyno tune.

No reason to worry about the tune if you are going to sell the car. The tune would simply be optimizing your engine to the mods it has on it.

ok so now my question is how would you go about getting a tune... do you need a piggy back unit or can the ecu be written to as it is? also can you run cams without a tune on these cars?

thanks a bunch

RMW came out with a flashing device that is/can be sent with one of his tunes on it. "Jan" is what he is referred to by if you see him mentioned. GIAC also has a tune and flashloader among others I am probably missing. Besides that it seems like you have to visit a shop, dyno day with a tuner, or get a Uni-chip piggyback.

The ecu can be written to...a custom tune is the best way to go...I questioned it till I had mine done...now I can say it was 100% worth it...car just runs better, smoother, more powerful, better MPG.
If you get a cam, you should also get bigger injectors too...
Do a quick search...you can learn tons on mini modding and tuneing.
most tunes are done at "tune parties" or other events...remote tunes are possible with some hardware...needed since the mini's ecu is hard to acess, so tuning it is very specialized, done by a select few, with both the skills and the equipment.

As for the info on "the shark injector"...
For the same $$ you can get a custom tune...tons more power and drivability...the shark seems to be kinda hit or miss...mostly acting as a timing advance on supercharged car....turbo bmw's are a different story, but on a mini it IMO is an iffy buy....
A custom tune will make use of you local octane level, 91 or 93, like the shark, but will also optimized the cam, and injector flowrates, fuel maps, and best of all, adjust the traction control to makes it less obnoxious, and make the gas pedal more responsive, kinda like a free "sprint booster".

We have a flash tool $300 which allows you to put the car between maps and our custom flash tune for your mods. $350

We perform these all over the world and our championship winning R53 was tuned this way setting track records along the way. All you need is a dyno

So I can buy a flash tool from you guys and a custom tune, depending on my mods, but i would need access for a dyno? can just load it without a dyno?

You can rent a Dino for about $100, and use e-mail to send the Dino graphs and tune back and forth...over the course of an hour or so, the tune will be done....many folks have a Dino within a couple hours drive....many several!!

I had mine done buy Jan/RMW in Norwich CT at a tune party.....
Go ahead, build up your car...just hold off on the injectors till spring...and I bet that another tune party will happen within a half a days drive...then pop in the new injectors, and get your tune! Then be wowed!!
That way you will just pay for the tune and the Dino....I got the flash tool too so I can reflash the stock software/tune if ever needed...insurance if you will!!
