Drivetrain Colder plugs and 17% pulley?
Do I need the colder plugs (IK22) with the 17% reduction pulley? I am running the stock software, and the only other mod is the cold air intake.
I am not looking for more HP from the plugs, I just want everything to work well together.
Will the stock plugs cause the engine to ping in the summer months?
Thanks,
Paul.

Well I am still running the Stock plugs and I have had my 17% pulley for about 2 months (8k miles). From what i have been told I should switch to colder plugd once the weather warms up. Most of my friends that run boosted cars have changed to colder plugs when they upped there boost.
Thanks Vdubdoug, I`ll upgrade to the colder plugs to be safe.
Question - My local Autozone store sells Denso plugs, are they the same as the ones that MINI vendors sell? They are priced less, and I can get them without waiting. I think the only difference might be the gap? If so, does anyone know the correct gap for the IK22 plugs?
Thanks,
Paul.

OK, I have just spent over 2 hours on NAM, I think I have read all the "spark plug" posts on the site. Seems like one heat range down is the way to go for a pullied car.
BUT, some are gapping the plugs .032, .035, .040, .060, and even .080"
Please someone put this to rest. What is the ideal gap?

I have the pilo ignition upgrade kit with colder plugs gapped at .065" and it is working fine in my MCS.

If I were you I would pull the stock plugs and read them to see how they are doing after a couple of hundred miles, measure the gaps, keep track of plugs 1-4.
If you are in a winter cold weather area, you may find the stock plugs are fine untill it warms up in the Spring. The point is, study up on reading your plugs and you will find your own answers.
My guess is .040 will work fine but then I don't know anything about how hard you run your car, your driving style or the quality of gas you have.
