Drivetrain VSS on a R56
VSS on a R56
Hi guys, I got an 08 cooper non s.
add a data logger to the car (for racing stuff).
Where is the vehicle speed sensor located? I tried searching and it seems that people are saying that my car does not have one. Then how does the car know how fast the car is moving? what other sensor it uses rather than the VSS. wheel speed sensor? or other sensor in the tranny?
thanks

There is some really strange behavior associated with the dyno. The MINI really hates the wheels turning at drastically different speeds (0 mph vs 100+mph)
while yes the actual speed is measured through the rear wheels, the "speed sensor" cables you're speaking of are technically located behind your two front wheels. They are the thinner of the two "cables" if you will by your brake rotor. Ones your brake lines, the other is the "speed sensor cable" ,which, since im lowered, rubs against something while i turn, and i found both to be rubbed through the rubber exposing the inside wires. Upon contact with metal while turning it would set off my ABS/Brake/DSC lights in the car, until i wrapped it up with electrical tape.
dealer wanted 65$/sensor + 125 for install, which I passed on, as my electrical tape works just fine for now.
At least, this is what they call the speed sensor cables, even though the actual mph is read through the rear tires. These speed sensor cables play a role in abs and detecting wheel slip/spin etc, if i were to guess.
