Got a phone call from the powdercoaters this morning. Said the motor/trans mounts are done. Gave me a week estimate for everything else.

Valve cover was painted red. I will try to get a pic up.

And I might even get to move the car into the garage to finish.

Sounds like progress is moving along nicely for the amount of time you actually have to work on it.

Sounds like things are going well. Hope to see you on some drives next spring if not before.

The badge looks great as well. May have to spring for one myself.

picked everything from TMCO powdercoating today. Turned out great. I misplaced my camera again so I will get pics for everyone as soon as its found. I am definitely glad that i coated all my intake horns, motor mounts etc. they look so much better than factory silver coating on them.

I recieved a shipment notice from Mini Mania yesterday, so my special order gaskets are on their way. shouldnt be to much longer now.

First of all looks awesome, can't wait to see it finished.

Quick question though, what header is that?

Did the intake horns need a lot of prep work before powdercoating? They have a pretty pronounced texture to them, and so I didn't know if you had to grind/smooth them down so the texture is sanded smooth, before you could powdercoat them... How much (if any) labor is involved with that? Thanks!

Jonnie, Powder coating is just like paint for surface prep, if you want a smooth finish they will need to be sanded smoothe first before coating. But if you just want the color with a slightly smoother but still kinda rough finish than just bead blast and coat.

Ahhhh, bead blasting; I didn't think of that.

I pictured a much more labor-intensive sanding or grinding process to get into each of those little squares; seems like a crazy amount of effort would be needed. Thank you.
