Drivetrain WL: R53 RMW transplant
did you run into any difficulties putting the motor back in? Im in the same boat as you and im still waiting on my motor to get back. Not looking forward to doing to the work, but definitely looking forward to a built motor
I have a 2003 with new engine supplied by RMW. The engine is great. However the installer experienced problems with the engine wiring harness and had to replace it. You might want to do that or speak with Jan about it so it can be replaced, if need be, at the stage of reassembly when it is easiest to do that. YMMV.
I guess getting my ball joints off to put my axles back in has been a real PITA!
Luckily I labeled every wire/connector with its location and put every bolt into ziplock baggies with where they came from on the bag. That was probably one of the smarter things Ive done.
Basically just go slow while putting it in, that way you dont accidently pinch something important in between the motor and the car.

This makes the reinstall about 10 times easier.

When I got there, there was a jumble of parts in the corner of his garage with a sign on it saying, "Morris parts"!
I guess it helped him tell them from. "Bicycle parts" and "Lawn mower parts"!
Dave
worked a little bit on it tonight after work.
got my cabrio braces on and then just some more electrical plugs back together.

I was thinking at work, Im pretty sure I can almost put my modular front end back on.... guess we'll see

ground wire placement
If anyone ever does a swap or motor work which requires disconnecting the main wire harness there is a mystery Ground coming off the main Harness ( this goes on the starter). examples are not noted in the Bentley Manuel and almost impossible to find a post of the same anywhere.
basically when your done you should have two wires going to the larger bolt on the starter. the only way we found this was to use my mini as a refresher after trying to find information on it elsewhere with no success.
hope this post will help someone down the line.
J I'll be over after my wife gets home to help out.

did some work tonight.
I was working on my oil pressure gauge the other day, and accidently kinked the nylon hose that is supplied by autometer. So i ordered a stainless line to fix that problem. no more kinks

Had to put my CAI back on to make sure the line wouldn't get in the way as i ran it through the firewall

and then finally got my header bolted up.

now i have to get some homework done before a round of golf tomorrow morning so i have free time tomorrow night to get more work done. I finally found some paint that matches the powder coat really good, so the valve cover is getting some color. As soon as the valve cover is on, i am ready for intercooler, and then modular front end.
Then off to a buddies shop for new ball joints and alignment. He is also going to be welding my v-band clamp onto my mid pipe. then back to my place for for some finishing touches, get a flash tune from jan and then start it. cant wait.

came in for supper, now headed back out to finish up the front bumper.
it was raining all day so I couldnt paint my valve cover yet, hopefully I have time to do it tomorrow.
Its going out on Monday for an alignment and getting my v-band welded on.
hooked the battery back up. then read the ecu so i can send the file to Jan. Now when it gets back from the shop, i can flash the ecu with the new file from him and be ready to start.
havent called the shop yet to see if the MINI is done yet, but I've been playing with the idea of powder coating my rims a "candy gold" color.
All last night i was looking for pictures of chili red with bronzish rims, and i kinda really want to change it up.
I guess i have some time to think, I was told mid next week for them to be blasted, then going to take them TMCO powdercoat. One of them had a little ding on the inside lip that i am going to take to a rim repair shop before pc.
The color ive been eying looks like this:
