Factory JCW Exhaust on MCS

I have a question for anyone that can help. I got a used factory JCW exhaust and put it on my MCS today. After driving around i started smelling a burning smell and i have no idea what it is. The exhaust was probably kept in a shed or something by the previous owner since it had some dust and cobwebs perhaps there is dirt or something in there burning lol thanks!

It does sound great tho!! lol

Could be the grease from your hands burning off.

Haha - it definitely sounds better with the exhaust. I'm planning on getting the JCW factory exhaust in November (birthday present for myself, woot!) so thanks for sharing. A couple of questions: 1) Do you have a tune? 2) Did you get both the front silencer and the rear muffler, or just the muffler?

Sounds great!

I don't have a tune the car is completely stock. The exhaust does make a nice difference on sound I highly doubt any significant performance gain although it does remove one cat so idk. But it is one piece it came off of a 2009 factory jcw so it is not two pieces as i think it is sold from the dealer.

OK cool, that's good to know as I was debating whether to get just the back or both front and back (clamped together). I think I'm going to get both. Thanks!

More air through the engine means more power. The ECU will compensate up to three degrees timing and adjust fuel as required. Enjoy the exhaust. Ive had mine for about a year and a half on my 2007 MCS.

I put the full JCW exhaust on at around 500 miles. I really didn't notice any sound difference from the stock MCS exhaust.

Can someone post a link to the best price they have found for the JCW exhaust? Curious to compare that pricing to aftermarket systems.

Also, those of you who upgraded to JCW, why not aftermarket instead?

I ended up trading my JCW for a stratmosphere and kind of regret it lol. I did notice a different in the sound with the JCW from stock but not a huge difference. The difference now with the stratmosphere is very very loud. I like it but sometimes it is just too loud lol.

I guess I'm not counting on a big difference in sound, but man I really hope I hear some kind of difference.

Re: price and why I picked JCW...

I initially was leaning towards the Invidia Q300 but then my local dealership sent this "gift card" which was really just a discount card good for up to $500 off. It brought the total price of the front silencer + rear muffler + labor to about $850 which I know is still more than what I'd pay for the Invidia, but it's really not that much more and I do get the factory warranty and I know it'll pass smog in CA when it comes time for that.

If you want to swap (yet again), the JCW Stage 1 exhaust (with the etched tips), will sound somewhere in between the stock JCW and the Stratmosphere

In line with this, I originally posted this in the General Mini section but saw that realoem.com has that part listed at around $500. Is this available to the general public?

Got my JCW exhaust installed today. First impressions: I love the look of the tips, I love the fact that I can drive it easy and it's quieter than stock, and I love how when I get on the throttle it sounds different from stock (in a good way). I don't think it's louder than stock, but it might get a little louder after I put some miles on it. At least, that's what happened to my stock exhaust. It does have a deeper exhaust note. Basically, if you're looking for something that isn't too loud unless you open it up, I think the JCW exhaust is a viable option. Again, I would have gone aftermarket if it wasn't for the discounts. The Invidia Q300 sounds perfect IMO.

Ya when I bought my used JCW exhaust same thing happened. Probably burned some spider webs out or something. But it sounds great and works great now.

Has anyone here experienced a rattling noise when going over bumps that appears to go away after the car has warmed up? It sounds like it's coming from the passenger side near the rear of the car. I had them put it back on the lift to double-check all the bolts and they swear everything is torqued down correctly. I think I'm going to take it somewhere else to get a second pair of eyes.

Just wanted to follow up on this thread since I put a few thousand miles on the exhaust.

1) The bozos that installed the exhaust initially had positioned it such that part of the exhaust was almost touching the underside of the car. I took it to another dealer (MINI of Concord, awesome service dept there ) and they fixed it up quick.

2) It is louder than stock (took awhile to break in), but only when you want it to be. Drive like my mom and it'll sound almost like stock, maybe a little deeper. Drive it like you stole it (the car not my mom) and it has such a nice throaty note, it's so addicting. I think the RMW tune lends to this though, when I flash the ECU back to stock it sounds quieter.

I just got a 2013 MCS just a couple months ago and was thinking of going with the JCW exhaust. I think I would go with a second hand unit just to save money. What year JCW exhaust do I need to look for to fit a 2013 MCS?
