Oil consumption on turbo Cooper S

I have been told by one owner and the tealer service tech that turbo cooper s models can consume as much as 1 - 1 1/2 quarts in a few thousand miles, and that this is normal.
Sounds very high to me, can anyone confirm?

I can confirm that some people's cars use more oil than others do......

Guess I'm fortunate, got 24K and have never had to add any oil. Of course I change it every 4K, may be overkill but sleep good at night.

If it seems to be a known issue, are there any fixes ? Do newer models have fewer occurrences (Mini has addressed)?

I don't believe it is a "known issue", or an issue at all. I've only read of a very few incidences of it.....

That said, the main way to address it seems to be more frequent oil changes (than the factory recommends) as odd as that might sound.

Changing the oil at 18-22K seems to cause them to use more oil than say changing at 7500.

I don't know whether the oil breaks down or gets thick and clogs the turbo return pipe, but if you're not changing till the service indicator says to, try adopting a 7500 mile interval and see if it helps. Also, be sure you use the right oil, and I recommend a factory filter rather than one from Autozone or such.

I haven't had to add any oil in between my 7500 mile changes, my car has 22K on it now.

The only time I've heard of someone's car using oil, they have been following the factory intervals - I have nothing but anecdotal evidence here, but I can connect the dots.....

Don't forget the well known issue of the oil pan gasket leak. Depending on how bad that is (if you have that problem), it may add up in terms of oil consumption/loss.

The oil consumption of my 07 MCS is minimal. I've never needed to add oil between changes which I try to keep to 5,000 mile intervals.

I wish that Mini would make its dip sticks readable by humans!

I was told by my SA that about a quart every 5k miles or so is pretty typical. My experience has been less usage than that.

I've just gone a round with Chrysler who considers a quart every 1,000 miles to be normal.

r56 cooper s oil consumption fix

Hi been having high oil consumption on my r56 cooper s was using 1 litre oil too 700 miles.
heres the fix

PCV is the Positive Crankcase Ventilation system, which forces blowby gases back (and a lot of oil coming with it) in the intake system.

This cap is very cheap and available from Peugeot (part code 0361S4 ), using it saves the trouble of having to clean your intake from oil and combustion residues. Peugeot/Citroen/Mini 1.6 Turbo (THP) - PCV delete modification

This technical modification is applicable on the following cars:

Peugeot 207 GT / Rallye / XS / THP150 1.6 Turbo 150/156hp
Peugeot 207 RC / GTI 175hp
Peugeot 308 150/156hp
Peugeot 308GT 175hp
Peugeot 3008 1.6T 150/156hp
Peugeot RCZ 1.6T 156hp
Citroen DS3 1.6 Turbo 156hp
Citroen C4 VTS 1.6 Turbo 150/156hp
Citroen C5 1.5 Turbo 150/156hp

Stopping oil from getting into the intake manifold directly from the crankcase

The latest and greatest modification for getting rid of oil in our intake manifold, which is causing so many problems in the cylinder head and intake valves, comes from Peugeot themselves.

The new RCZ and 308GTI with the THP200 engine have a small difference in their intake manifold compared to the older models.
While the manifold body is the same, there is a very small cap that closes the rear PCV hose in the THP200 engine, which does not exist on the THP150 and 175hp engines.

The difference between the intake manifolds can be seen in the following pictures from Peugeot Servicebox.

Part number 8 is the cap that closes the PCV return hose from the engine to the intake manifold.

Installing the cap in THP150 / 175 engines

First remove the rear PCV return hose. Press the clip to release it from the engine cover.

As has been mentioned not every car is using that much oil every 5000 miles,
BUT if I was looking to buy a car and the dealer told me it MIGHT use a quart of oil every 5000 miles and that was within tolorence for them, I run away as fast as I could!!!!
