02 6spd Transmission Grenaded ? about 05

Ok, After picking up my 02 R53 from the alignment shop. I drove about a mile down the road and something flew through the transmission casing.

So I'm stuck with replacing the transmission. I'm looking for information about putting in a 05-06 6spd with lsd from the factory. I remember an older thread saying something about the shift linkages were different, but I can't find it through the search option. I also read about the cruise control not work mine is a base so I don't have cruise anyways.

If anyone knows of any info of what I need to switch from an 02 to 05 trans that would be very helpful. And if you know of where I may find one please let me know.

Thank you very

Ps how do I edit the title

oowwwwwiiie.... I don't know everything thats different, but i do know part of the shift lever is different, but the part on the bottom that the linkage attaches to is the same. but since one of the pivot "*****" is a different size, i don't know if that has an effect on anything else. ( i assume not though, but im sure there are some other differences as well. Call way motor works.. don't know if he will be able to help you, but something tells me he can give you some insight)

for both its about a grand for the clutch and flywheel. he did mine for me, all in all just for the clutch ( i had some other problems as well) its was ~1800. check at your local dealer for the labor as well. I have a guy thats closer to me that works at the dealer that says he will do the labor on the weekend for $500 and 2 beers, instead of the dealer rate of $1500 labor or ways $800 labor. and while I completely trust way, i also trust this guy and this guy is only 30 min away vs way is 4 hours away in Atlanta.

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but you need an '05 clutch plate as the splines are not the same.

My bet is on the diff pin and/or a spider gear breaking through.

I installed an '05 tranny with factory LSD into an '02 about 4 or 5 years ago. Nothing, including clutch plate, needed to be swapped at that time (the '06 tranny might be a different matter). Be forwarned: based on the 6 conversions I have heard about, half were left with no cruise control except in 3rd gear (including mine). No one was ever able to sort out that issue. However, I gladly go without cruise control in favor of the very superior performance due to the shorter gearing on the '05-'06 trannies.

Working on getting the trans out. Should be dropped Tues or Wed. I will crac it open and take some pics. My 02 doesn't have cruise so I'm not concerned about that.

That's what I was leaning toward, but I am really curious to see.

Progress report. Just dropped the sub frame. Gonna grab the trans jack and a few more tools from the shop. Hoping to get the trans out tomorrow. before I have to bar tend every night till Sunday. Gonna try and put in some fresh SC oil in the water pump drive while I got the whole front off.

Mini update. 05 trans was shipped in with the slave mounting tabs snapped off. So I'm waiting for them to find a replacement. Trans is almost out just ran out of time working both jobs.

Second replacement transmission arrived in perfect shape. Also as a added surprise it is a factory locking trans so if anyone knows someone look for a stock LSD I will be posting one for sale soon. Still waiting on my clutch disc and all of the replacement heater hoses to arrive. Replace almost all the wear items so I don't have problems later.

Final Update... It's back on the road.
Act Clutch and Flywheel are a great upgrade. Grabs About an inch off the floor and is buttery smooth. It feels just like the clutch in the S2000.

I decided to take the engine out and install everything as a unit. In my opinion makes it a lot easier. While the engine was out every coolant hose was changed, New upper engine mount, Slave and lines, front and rear sway bars, and belt tension er. I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot but it's nearly 100 degrees and I feel baked.
