Ok so good news, my parents made a mistake. I had them hunt through my pile-o-parts surrounding my car in the garage and the header did come in. They just took it out with the others and forgot about it, then forgot to tell me. I am relieved that after two months of waiting to check it off of my list I can finaly do it. There is always a funny story behind all the best parts that go into building a good car, this one is mine I guess.

Sorry for the harsh words Jan, I will be ordering a set of 550's after my Sparco Sprint 5 seats get ordered next week.

Good

All is well on the home front....

Don't know which is worse, really hi temp with no shade or really damp with lots of shade - still hot - with no way to keep your feet dry.... either way, it gets old quick.

Yes it does, then you finaly get to go home and everything gets better. You decide to get out of the army just to change your mind 2 1/2 years later and go back in, just to end up back in the same place you started. (Oh maby thats just me.)

Ive been looking around on some of the other MINI forums and, I have finaly found a couple answers.

Mike Mynes tuned a R53 for E85 and the HP gain from the map he was able to run was right around 23HP more than the same car tuned on regular gas. Sounds good to me I have seen gains upwards of 60 HP in Evo's and STi;s, the mini dosn't have the displacement or the ability to change boost levels(minus pulley swaps). It still sounds like a good idea to me, all we need now is Jan to start playing with the stuff.

Walbro does produce a in tank pump for the MINI. it is not listed on the US site though and does require slight modification to fit. A lot of people in the UK are running them. Some have even switched fuel systems entirely with good results.

I still wish that I could find the old Dinan fuel pump/regulator kit, I dont think I could afford swap an entie system right now.

Hey Steve, good thought but I am looking for a stock type rising rate that is adjustable, that way I dont need to try and fanaggle a universal one into a system that already works. Dinan had a set for a little while that wasnt adjustable but it was suitable for the high flow fuel pump that was also included in the kit.

If I were to go the full custom route, Aeromotive's products are top notch. A lot of there parts and pices would be on my list. But lack of funding this time around is going to keep that in the works for a while, as with all the death rocket motor plans.

Hey Rick. the Dinan piece is a Bosch - nothing special. It's just which 1.

Yep thats the main problem. Dinan Quit offering the parts(due to excess noise from the pump) and now they are not at liberty to say the part numbers of the pices they suorced for the kit.

Without having the factory specs on the stock MINI pices, and all of the cars that the parts can interchange with(same bolt pattern, same wiring/plumbing) it makes finding stuff like this incredibly hard. And if you know of sombody that has found the right parts 99% of the time they wont tell you what ones they are.

Well... IMHO the OE will flow enough... even with the OE pump. But, the fact that this is Bosch, my bet is it's a BMW part. It should NOT be a big deal to figure it out. Look at a BMW big 6 cylinder, calculate the fuel load, based on volume ( injector size )...

The Dinan kit was designed to overdrive the OE injectors - cost less than JCW inlectors to do ( at the time ). You need to remember when this kit came out there wasn't much in the way of real, hard core, old school go fast.

I wouldn't dwell too much on this area. You have many other issues to deal with. This would much easier to see - feel HANDS ON

^^^^^^ Ya what he said Dummy!! ^^^^^^^
This build is already starting to cost ME way too much,(its like I have OCD with car parts!) My garage is full(well all 3 of my cars are in there), and I can only do so much staring at a computer.

I'm pretty sure that I will be happy with the parts I have chosen, and with my suspension setup and as much weight as I have taken out, and will be taking out the thing will be pretty quick.

I will try to fanagle some pictures from home of what the inside of my garage looks like, evidently there are boxes upon boxes everywhere.(and more is on the way, My SPARCO Sprint 5 seats should be there Thursday!)

I was just thinking...

I spent much of my in service time with a picture of a girl, and dreams of what would come after I got back home. Romantic huh...

In fact people change, and so my dreams did not unfold the way I hoped that they would.

Perhaps I would have been wiser to do what you are doing, because the car and the parts will be there for you when you get back.

Thanks for your service, and I bet you are going to have one kick-*** time when all is said and done.

Respect,

Charlie

Thanks Charley, I learned my first time over here in 2003 that the key to staying happy and focused on your job is to, find something to keep you occupied durring your off time that you can look foreward to, and is gaurenteed to be there when you get home.

My car should be a cute little MONSTER when I get it all piced togeather. And rightly so it needs to be, I need to justify in my mind why I kept the MINI and didn't go buy the Lotus Exige I originaly planed on.

Ehh... I think you are wise.

I run against the Lotii here up in the Northeast Region, and they are surely quick, but.

I've been beating a SM Lotus (wears Hoosiers) with my ST Cooper this year, so the driver matters.

And he has to pull a trailer, and I don't!

:-)

I have a new idea. (wow all the disastorus things that have ever started with that sentance) And this one MIGHT actualy work.(see above caption)

So if you have followed this thread you know that we have covered just about everything including aerodynamics, which is what this bable to myself is going to entail.

Scoops, I NEED SCOOPS. NACA ducts to be exact.(the ones I am thinking of are thumbnailed below) I need more air into my engine, more air = more power. I already have an ALTA intake but, does it work to its maximum potential? NO SAYS I. How could I improve it? Well a box top would help(oops sombody already thought of that). Nope do I ever take the easy way.

What I want to do here is totaly seal the entire air box all 6 sides of it(yes it is a cube cubes have 6 sides), cut a hole for a NACA duct in the hood right above the box, cut a hole in the top of the air box, and drop in a duct (trimmed to fit ofcourse). Then I want to repete this hole in a mirror image on the other side of the hood, but bring the duct into some tubing(insulated from the heat off of JAN's masterpice of a header) and plumb it into the side of the box. Simple!

The result would be nice cool air, pressurized by the speed of the car, right into the intake. And probably some more NOISE out of the diminutive eaton M45.
What do you think about this one? Maby good Ol'e FishHead could chime back in with some of his aero testing results, to shoot down my therory.

not to disappoint

Sandman>>>So as not to disappoint you here's ANOTHER option !! RE-UP !! BIG CASH BONUS~~~ALL the "E-85 " problems will have been solved by others! You'll be RICH; and we'll probably be running SeaWater by then anyway! Aero's will be a thing of the past and "scales " WILL be IN !! Ha ha In all seriousness I've got some "things" about 50% done that WILL do just what you're talking about;and WON't use ANY more than existing construction~~re-engineered. Don't forget what goes in MUST come out !! It's A DRAG to be just THAT ! Labor is the problem at the moment w/ my "items". After they're done I'll P.M.you some pics. Checkout ceramic on the headers , Peter's "blanky" on top of them afterwards and ADD A BUNG (pre cat) cuz you'll NEED it (new tech stuff /wide band)! Then the lil "baby scoop" (also m7) . Get shed of all that HEAT~~~~~~you're just gettin used to it. I've cut OVER a hundred deg under hood temps just making air and heat go where they SHOULD go. Kinda fun~~Otherwise I'm just waitin on Mynes to get his tuning "raygun" finished as I AM in the "Queue" for THAT ; Autometer to finish their #&&$%*% A.F.R gauge (#4370 promised 6/10- now 9/10 ?)Too Bad about "Driscoll"~~GOOD to have a MAN if you're gonna have a "war"~~~~keep yo melon low~ OBEY

FISH. You are alive!!!
Ok so it,s time for the whole story. My heat situation shuld be under controll, Exahust wrap, thermo barrier type stuff, and what not has been sitting in my garage for quite some time. I want to do a carbon fiber hood for the 20lbs weight savings, and was thinking of a modifyed version of M7's DFIC exit scoop to let some heat out. ThenI figgured that since I was cuting holes in it anyhow to let heat out, whats a couple more to let air in?
Two of those NACA ducts should be able to feed the air box enough air at highway speeds to keep the box at positive pressure. All I realy need to do is find the space to route the plumbing for the passanger side scoop.

Ok so I'm litteraly siting here in Iraq squirting Easy Cheese on Doritos, looking at the extensive list I have on my garage floor. I think its about time for another update rather than a rant about somthing that might work so here goes.

All parts except my RMW tune have been bought!

(1) I'm keeping the M7 16% I have on the car now
(2) Also keeping the ALTA intake
(3) You guessed it I'm keeping my noise cannon of an exahust
(4) I went ahead and bought the most expencive 2 HP known to the MINI world, Yep the GTT 63mm throttle body
(5) M7 DFIC2, it is still a part that I belive in, even if I need to cut a hole in my hood to make it work
(6) RMW's Shorty header, cant go wrong in my oppinion
(7) Lots of exahust wrap and other heat insulation stuff
(8) 550cc injectors are coming before long
(9) Having Jan do a custom remote tune when I get home and do some baseline pulls. (will be tuning for E85 sooner or later)

Thats it, pretty standard comonly used mods for now. I cant say that I was as conservitive on the suspnsion and chassis tho.
