Engine stablization MY WAY

A few posts ago I think it was Steve wanted to know what I was doing for engine mounts, so before I turn in tonight here it is.
Plain and simple I love being able to hear and feel everything my car is doing, suspension and drivetrain wise. So I did what any spine tingling vibration lover would do and called uppon Mr. PolyUrithane to do the job. I ordered 2 of the newest parts I have seen for our cars and cant wait for the third to be developed to complete the package.
#1 on '05-'06 or '08 for you drop tops the hydraulic mount that comes stock needs to go, I broke one on my R50 and when I bought the R53 I have now it was just replaced. So when I saw TSW's solid replacement I was like "MINE" found the add to cart button and there it was(and still is) siting at my house. This looks like one stout pice that shuld last a long time, but will add the NVH most people dont care for.
#2 I was actually parusing through NAM when I found another brand new part I had to have, the BSH lower mount. This lil SOB looks bullitproof, It is SOLID aluminum on the small end and poly on the other. I chose the Race version for the bushing which will keep the motor from jumping around as load levels change. But it too will add NVH(you see where I'm going.
#3 I posted on that thread and in short asked if they where making a replacement for the trans/motor mount, they replyed back and said it was in devlopment. I want to be the first in line to get one when/ if they are made.
With theese mounts the engine will hardly move and every sound and viberation it makes will go strait to my but dyno, making me verry happy. It is not a setup for everyone but I will enjoy every filling that falls out of my teeth.

That VID looks sweet (couldnt really watch much the internet here is really slow) I dont really recomend trying this tho, shifter carts aint no joke they often hit 120 mph at the kart track by my house. I cant imagine what kind of nuts it requires to put one on the street. I will have to start loading it again tomorrow when I get off the job site so I can see the whole thing.

post 99

Ok: the world has been made a better place & much to your chagrin I is back from da v.a. RE: Your post 99-------WOW !! Are YOU the SAME "Rick" that started this thread or are you "guys" (engs) having your way w /us "antiques" as I seem to remember YOU referring to "us" as ?? Ok Rick----come clean and what IS IT there ?? Like next Sunday ?? You as my future------well might not be too bad if it's as the 99 post goes !! Have you seen the "aeros" on the new F-1's etc ?? Killin me----------think "tire/wheel" mounted in the "flapper style" paint strippers (rotory) w/ the "flaps" removed only at the contact points of the tire !! LOOKS insane at first-----then---------WOW !! Makes SO much sense; especially after my hillbilly air testing. This IS one Place where ALL of us need to concentrate. We're makin the whp & we're makin "contact" w/it !! But the aeros ARE just pitiful !! Seeing the air blow straight fwd at 60 mph or so is /does just NOT "calc" in my head !! But--after gettin into the vortekz and REALLY playin w/ them-------MAN--there IS ALOTout there to improve on!! I've got a couple friends (yeah--ME) that HAVE removed the rear spoiler /wing from the Mini & experienced improved track times along with 200 to 500 MORE rpm's !! Just watched Sebring----the Minis runnin there (3 or 4 ) NO spoilers !! Kicked A** in the turns but gave way on the straights & STILL--one of em finished 2nd runnin against some tru "monsters"!! Sleep on it & keep yo head dn

Yep I am only one person. It just depends what one of me you catch at any particular time. I guess I can just be a little hard on people right off the start.
The only thing that comes to mind about the (stock) mini wing slowing the car down, off hand anyhow, is at speed it creates a LOT of drag. I will put more thought into this today as I am driving my domp truck in circles.
As for the new F1 series cars, I havent seen them maby throw up a pic. It sounds interesting, and around the wheels of any car is an aerodynamic deadzone.

vacumn

Rick :I'm REALLY trying to come up w/ some pics of "flapper" aeros I saw and CAN'T seem to find ANYTHING-----yet (new quest) Don't know why; I MUST be searching the wrong threads??(help) Personally I think our "dirt magnets" could put Dyson outta business ! Man thats not drag --thats vacumn. On a rainy day I can put dry debris on the back of my car in no time as I guess everybody else can too. My first Mini was the same also and all you hear is "how can I keep it / make it clean" I feel like I'm draggin my living room behind me.I wonder what it WOULD be like to NOT have this "effect" going on at all times ?? Any of you guys out there w/ the newer rear (under mount) spoilers got any info ?? Do THEY remove this "effect?? The Vortekz just may be the answer but its GOT to get dry here before I can make an attempt. Somebody's got some info --eh?? I know my car would REALLY become a bullet w/out this "specimen chute " behind me !!---------later & be safe

Parents....... Neighbors who tell parents, Yup, my parents woulden't let me have a motorcycle, so I bought 1 and kept it at my best friends house.....

Our PCR has a 99 YZ 125 that runs C12 as well as methanol. Since we now have a new race mart with E85........

How is your project comming? That's a car I'd to get a ride in

Ya alot of nastyness gets collected on the back of a MINI Fish, but without any testing to see where the air is coming from I wouldnt know where to start.
The rear defusers (under car spoilers) work amazing at creating a low pressure area under the rear of the car, which induces downforce. If you look at pretty much any of the exotic market supercars they are puting this racing derived tecnology to good use. However I think they would have a reverse effect at keeping the car clean, when the high pressure from the sides and top of the car colide with the low pressure under the car it will kick up alot more dust.
To even design one properly on a MINI the exahust would need to look kinda like mine , strait no mufflers on the corners. You need to make an imaginary triangle of sorts with the lowest edge(farthest foreward on the car) the ground (if you need to know where this is look down) and as high up on the bumper as you can or are willing to go. In this wedge shaped space is where your low pressure will be, and in theroy it makes your car function as its own spoiler. I am attaching a pic of Web motorsports Mule race car, taken at M.I.T.M.2007 it is pretty much what you would need to fabricate.
As for cool ride on toys growing up, I had a 22.5cc(yes the decimil is there) GoPed scooter. When I got it it toped out at a whoping 20mph Than I replaced the motor with the flat top RC engine Bored out the tiny walbro carb, including the plastic pice they call a manifold, did a mild(so I thought port job) built my own exahust, added a 1" spindle, and mixed the gas/oil it is suppose to run on with Nitro Methane and alchohol. It almost got me kicked out of Bandemere Speedway at highschool drags my senior year, they wouldnt let me run it on the track so I was racing people in the pits and they clocked me at 48mph after I let off. All of my friends where terrifyed to ride it, and I got a free ride in a police car to talk to my parents on more than one ocasion but it was worth the bragging rights.

No Steve unfortunatly it is not, It is Webb Motorsports "MULE track car"

I just recived a little valuable info from a reliable scource, that perhaps a new I/C of my dreams might be in the works. I might need to stop thinking about the DFIC, and simmilar all togeather. I dont know any of the details on this mystery air chilling device, and am not at liberty to say who let me know it was coming, but if he has more details and wants to enlighten the crowd by all means I wont tell anyone NO.

Fishead has a W2A mania on his car. If I were to go thar route, it's a no brainer for the $$$$.
Looking ahead to your mystery air chilling device! Surface with a purpose...

We may take the 125 kart out on Saturday. I just jetted the long track carb, a Keihen Sudco pro41mm, for methanol & got a gallon of E85 - It should run well. We always run pump gas for a few minutes after a methanol day - no need with E85 - I let you know..........

ten thou

Can't catch a break----------------10,000 comedians outta work & now I'm supposed to look at my feet!! Gotta admit Rick---ya caught me but I darn sure didn't look down (may never again) Can you believe it ?? OVER 2,000 "hits" on this thread --I ask one question (rear diffs) and NOT a single reply !! Except from "sand boy" (how's that steve?) Well what you said does make a bit of sense and something I'll keep in mind! I've seen the vortekz mounted upside down under the rear spoiler (3ofem)and was told they "helped" ? Can't say one way or another but I'm pretty sure mine will never see that locale. I've already made a template at 15 / 10 / 2.5 & 0 deg from center--being the antenna;going either way. This "should disrupt things completely and the "layout" fits the exact overall roof dimension side to side !!(miracle?) I've stared longingly at those rear diffs but the mods to an R53 to make em work-don' think so. Ok , thanks for the advice (sure) and I'm back to findin those "flapper" pics~~~~~~~~~~be safe "sand man" ?? (better)

"flappers"

SAND MAN : Found almost THE exact car!!! (just not a Mini) This IS what I'm talkin bout------look CLOSELY at the fenders / wheels front and rear. This SO against my values but here ya go & IT IS "THE KIND" google mazda race cars--click on that hatchback--enlarge & drool !! THIS (I BELIEVE) or a very close variation IS what we need to do to the Mini---------------and I AM gonna try ! (long as I DON'T look down) Also I hear you got "lucky"?? GOOD FOR YOU-------personally I luv a winner

follow the thread

Well I guess w/ out giving the reaction you seem to want ?? (why ?) I'd say IF you 've been following the thread then you'd know that we've been discussing the lack of "good " aeros on the Mini (long runs) not the "twisties"and I had seen this style applied to a particular car and have been trying to find a picture of it for Rick. Nothing more OR less; the "other stuff"-dunno pal----can't help you

Today's the day, New Revolution day.
Peopple that write like John Force talks, REJOYCE. Diplomacy has been played.

Old white haired guys are taking to the streets, PC, what ever the hell that means, is dead. THANK GOD.

Are we car guys, you bet your *** WE ARE. Skate boarders, "J" walkers, for that matter, anyone that thinks the street is for people to do what ever they want, WE'RE COMMING FOR YOU!

Yes it's true. All those elderly investment consultant types, w/ pocket protectors & Captain Midnight de-coder pins, are really part of the "New Revolution". AND, white men can jump, Superman, a white man, can leap tall buildings in a single bound, so there you have it.

Fish you must be talking about theese(look at the pic)they are called cannards. Theese are on one of the EVO's that my buddy has tuned, they cost quite a bit from what he said.
The function of theese is to provide downforce to the front corners of the car, notice how they are placed in a area that sees alot of pressure not only from foreward movement but also what is being pushed across the front of the car.

The up side) They work, they are easy to produce, and they look cool IMO

The down side) Companys that make good ones are proud of them so they cost ALOT, I have seen them rip themselves from the car at high speeds due to bad mounting, a front spliter will do more theese just help, and MINI's dont have much of an overhang to use them.

I have been thinking of designs for months to make them work on the MINI, and the only thing I can come up with I actually need the car to design a template. If you where to design some, you would want to square the front corners of the car with them. (To provide the largest surface area.) You also want the little buggers to go as far town the side of the bumper as possible, this even means going onto the fender flare right up to the wheelwell.(To maximize the ramp your low pressure area will form in to create your downforce.) And they need to be mounted solid, they will fall off if they are not.
Theese are the only major hurdles in your way, so go ahead and pioneer the way to a good fnnctional pice of personal genus you didn't know you had.

web site

Rick: Are you not able to pull up that web site ?? Maybe we're "crossing mails" here tis once more GOOGLE - mazda race cars- DEVIANTARTSITE comes up click on the picture of the hatchback !! Drool-------------Yeah you are right as to the fragility as I've seen them get bad quick in some applications--take a GOOD look at this one------you'll see that it's "almost a 0ne piece body kit !! The "trick" would be to get the wheels out FAR enough (safely) so that you could create this effect which IS un-beatable if done right. Also type in GrassrootsMotorsports.com go to pg 43 Steve Stafford --aeronautical engineer for toyota (trd) and now farmed out to NASCAR has great article---but is actually(to your dismay) ANTIQUE cuz Steve sent an article showing Jr.Johnsons old ride which is EXACTLY what this aero guy reccomends and Jr. had it 40 yrs ago !! Nascar BANNED it after one season. P.s I tried going directly to deviant---it didn't work ?? I,ve got a foot long url for this but for some reason-----nada-Lemme Know before you get beddie bye~~~~~~~~~
