Big turbo upgrade with the Garrett GT28RS...

Has anybody done this upgrade with the Garrett GT28RS combined with the Unichip Q- Plus:

http://www.unichip.us/vehicle/vehicl...urbo-Upgrade-S

???

Im looking into the turbo swap but just trying to get an idea of how it runs with the Unichip...
It says on this site that with a correct tune the 1.6 should be producing 350hp. I have all new engine hoses from Alta and a turboback exhaust as well. Before i get this turbo upgrade i would also be getting the Alta FMIC Upgrade.

If anyone has any opinions on this kit they would be greatly appreciated...

I will be going this route and have been doing a lot of research. I am kinda torn between getting a custom tune with the turbo and using the unichip. I think the unichip would be ok with the real time tuning kit. But on its own I havnt seen anything spectacular.

I hope you folks searched the history of UNICHIP on the R56, it is pretty dismal.

If this is a new product, then I hope you early adopters have very good luck.

Since your going with a new turbo and chip, warranty is probably not an issue, I would go with a tune versus the chip.

Search the forums for commentary on the unichip, plug&play.

YMMV.

I have read a couple posts about the UNICHIP causing issues with letting moisture in at the connectors, which is why im skeptical about getting i

when you say a tune vs the chip, the tune would completely remap the factory ecu correct? like a reflash? (im guessing this is not something that your basic tuner can do, or is it?) Im hoping to buy the bigger turbo by this upcoming spring and im just trying to figure out the route to manage it..

Tune it, don't UNICHIP it. Unless you're okay with possibly frying your ECU that is.

Also, I'd think about getting the Helix or Forge FMIC rather than the ALTA, they supposedly perform better and you won't have to cut your bumper up. Even though you obviously like ALTA parts (as do I), it might not not be a bad idea to change your mind on that one.

But good luck, I can't even imagine an R56 with 350hp

The unichip harness has seem to be the evil of the design. I dont know if anyone here has done the 2009 tune yourself option with the unichip yet even though it is now available. Seems like people are just buying the can tune plug and pray version. We all know that canned tunes cannot possible put down the power a custom tune can. However it would be interesting to do a self tune on the uni and see what it can do.

I went with the alta IC btw. I dont like the helix design and didnt trust it. I know people are putting out great numbers with it. However the design just doesnt make sense to me with the characteristics of flow. I would rather cut up my bumper and use a trusted end tank and flow design. If it doesnt do what I need Im just going to have one custom made.

man if you think you can eke 350 hp out of this tune, I hope yr going to upgrade yr clutch and dmf and the rest of yr drivetrain to accomodate all that increased power--- the OEM components will not hold up to that much of a HP/torque bump. I dont think the engine will hold up to that either.

If the motor is even going to handle it. From what I have read the stock injectors run out at about 300hp. Can anyone confirm that? If that is the case do we also have any confirmation the the audi s3 injectors fit and are working in a r56?
