Drivetrain Pictures of your intakes? BMP, Viper, K&N, etc...
Sure, here is a pic of the whole engine, then one of the Pipercross Viper up close.

It's a good fit. I reccomend you look around for the hose you like, as the one it came with did not last with my make shift zip tie assembly while I hunted for the hose clamps that it DID NOT COME WITH.

Heyas Dandp, that image is not showing.
That Viper on the S would do well with a cowl scoop.

Well from how I understand it, the ProMini isn't a true cold air intake. It is mixed air that you are taking in. With the Viper Pipercross, you are taking it truly cold air. It is one of the only true cold air intakes...

You're right, but there's more to consider.
The difference between the two wrt the filter element itself is probably negligible, as is the flow between the element and the throttle body....at least I assume so. Therefore, aside from looks and price, the differences have to do with the quantity and quality of the air inbound to the filter. I know, obvious, bear with me while I theorize a bit (and kill a little time).
They both use the stock intake snorkle so they both get a supply of cold air. The Viper is entirely enclosed within the engine bay so this is it's sole air supply....benefits of cold air, but some folks question whether the stock snorkle is so restrictive that it negates at least some of the advantage of a free-flow foam filter element. The ProMini canister is open at one end so it will draw both cold and hot underhood air....in motion the majority is likely cold air forced through the snorkle, while moving slowly or motionless I'd bet the majority is hot air drawn directly through the open canister end. If the Viper's performance is hampered by stock airflow levels (BIG if), the ProMini may benefit from the trade-off - unrestricted flow - but does the hotter air give back the gain? Very few of us who claim to know the answer to that question are doing anything but guessing. I figure it's all down to individual perception of the relative differences.
The most noticeable difference between these two has to be the sound. The Viper is enclosed by materials that attenuate engine sound about as well as the stock airbox. The ProMini canister is made of sheet metal (aluminum?) that may even add to the sound, and it's open at one end. I personally think that kind of sound is supposed to come from the other end of the car....the exhaust...one man's opinion.
I think these are the two best MC intakes out there right now, but that's just my own perception. It could be they're both gross overkill and therefore money down the well....is the NA MC engine really starving that much for air? When I read words from folks like Eric (at Helix) talking about the miniscule differences in pressure measured fore and aft of the throttle body I seriously wonder. But I still say the answer has to be YES based simply on the difference in performance as the temperatures change with the seasons....but how much difference can an intake make and which design gains most? Do any of you REALLY KNOW the answer to that question....no guesses?
I guessed and dropped a load of $ on a Viper. I say it helps, but was it worth the extra $? Dunno.

Great input kurvhugr. The main reason I'm leaning toward the ProMini/BMP is the reason you mentioned, $$$. The ProMini is about 100.00 cheaper depending on where you get it, so for the same price as the Viper you can pick up the ProMini intake, a set of magnecor plug wires, and still have money to spare.
Someone on here mentioned to me that the Viper would be worth the extra money if you were say, racing, or something like that, where competition was coming into play. Every little bit counts for that. For everyday driving, I think the BMP/ProMini is the choice I'm going to make.
Thanks for all the pics and input guys!

Hi All-
I am new to the site and a new MCS owner. I am so excited to have these forums to learn and share with all of you. Which filter is the best for HP gains? i love the look of the Viper, but I am partial to the K&N out of habbit. Any info would be helpful. Thank you

Welcome to the site! If you have an MCS, you probably should also look around a bit among the other threads. There are pics of intakes for MCS' in this thread, but the original question and most of the discusion has to do with the MC so less useful to you. You can easily find threads about MCS intakes with plenty of descriptions and opinions, just look around a bit and/or use the search function. Here's a recent one to get you started:
Which Aftermarket Intake System Gives the Most Power Gain to an MCS?

>>Great pics guys! Gosh the Pipercross looks so much better on an S then a Cooper IMO...
Well I think that the Viper looks better on both than most of the others.
I really dig that they hook up to fresh air instead of pulling the air from the engine bay.

I have run a temp sensor down to the face of the foam element and it usually reads teh same as ambient or ambient plus 1 degree at most. Going thru the bulkhead really works. RandyPage Title maxmini home site
