Theres really no need for a tune with a header is there? I vote for header, I have it and love it

Intercoolers on the R53 are a waste

Why do you say that the GRS outperforms every IC?

loads of test done already my good Doctor...and shows that the GRS is the best topmount IC out there (best cooling/best boost/best mph/best 1/4 mile times/best recovering times from heat sink).

I cant remember were ive read it and I think you've got to search for it...and coupled with a meth kit..then I bet it'll out perform any IC out there (incl water to air)

i think jan recomends a tune for the header,
so cost wise you would be looking at a grs charge cooler on a like for like basis...

In my experience - the OEM header is so much more restrictive than the RMW shorty that it can make a significant difference in flow. If you were on a stock tune, then probably no worries - but if you're already tuned for your current mods, the addition of the header can "break the envelope" for flow and AFRs with your current tune. I've experienced this personally.

I'm not a "Jan can do no wrong" kinda guy - but I DO love my RMW shorty. Equal-length primaries and that collector design FTW. It's loud without being "stupid loud" like some other options.

I've also heard very good things about the GRS intercooler - that's probably what I'd go with IF I was going to replace the IC - but, frankly, after monitoring IATs with my setup and with the ambient conditions in my area, I don't see where I'm going to get significant gains from any aftermarket IC - I went water/meth instead and that seems to have a bigger impact on temps.

Lots and lots and even more lots of testing has shown very minor if any improvement in performance with any air to air IC.

Get the header to go with the exhaust you have now. And dump the unichip and get a custom tune.

Header before IC, but choose your header wisely. Don't get one that is too small or too big for your planned modifications.

If its better than anything, its probably only marginally better than stock...and not worth the money. The gains are not worth the money, when stock works nearly as good.

And sure with a meth kit it will outperform any IC....so will stock.

[Hyjack on] I agree but how useful/realistic is a Meth kit for everyday driving ? How often do you have to fill RMW's kit or anyother kit out there if you tune for everyday use ? - is it still worth it ? Hyjack off]

+1 on the RMW shorty. It is top notch hrdw, and allows you to experiment with cat back systems. A tune is not required, but sure it would help.

Depends on how you set it and how much boost you use.... Mine starts spraying at about 5psi and ramps up to full spray at about 11-12psi. I use the headlight washer tank, about 2.3L. Typically a tank of water/meth lasts through 1-2 tanks of gas depending on how I'm driving. If I drive conservatively (rare) it will last much longer.

I have an on/off switch so I can turn off the system for interstate cruising - since at the speeds I drive much of that is under boost but I don't need the meth then. Otherwise cruising at highish speeds and continuous boost will eat a tank pretty quickly.

From my point of view - it's plenty practical with the above caveats. I go through a $2 gallon jug of fluid every couple of weeks.

While GRS is a very nice intercooler - the testing I have seen does not support your comments. Please provide thread.

Since I will be in the market for a IC one of these days, could you provide a link to the testing you have seen? And I might be mistaken but I think the GRS as gone thru a change? Think I read that on Mini Torque.

I have had the same questions, in my own mind, as you. How fast can you burn thru a tank of meth on a 107 deg. day? I imagine it can get pretty expensive?
