btw, once Partsman posts to this thread, I think we have once again recreated the official "Low IAT Group." We have quarterly meetings, here on NAM...
good one. I was wondering why you hadn't posted yet. I asked Partsman if he still had that IC, don't think he does. Did you mean the ideas from Partsman and Dr.O? Dr.O mentioned the coating.

Couple things...

I got my GP from some guy who'd bought a bunch of them in Europe and sold them via e-Bay... he's out and since then (and MINIUSA clamping down), they've gotten very scarce.... So much so that when I hit a deer two years ago, I'm still running the cracked IC cover...

The coating testing I did was on the stock IC. I think that the sub $100 it costs to do is one of the better investments in IC improvement.

I think the secret ingredients are:
Stock IC (since GP ICs are hen's teeth)
Ceramic/thermal coating
Cut and angle IC for more aggressive air flow (this is pretty serious but very effective)
Bigger scoop
Diverter to direct air flow and prevent losses

Ooops, now I've just revealed the secret recipe...I'm a dead man!

Where do you suggest cutting? On the front so it angles up more? I might have to try this and see how it works And also what do you mean by diverter? Intercooler diverter?

I am putting my Cooper S back to stock and I have a GP I/C fitted. Someone has put their name on it for now but if it falls through then it will be available.

I am in the UK though.

If anyone is interested PM me and if the guy who has his name on it don't buy it I will contact you. Price is £300 (GP I/C, brackets, under bonnet diverter and I/C diverter)

Partsman did some cutting at the ends of the IC, as did Bahamabart (but his is not a stock IC). The idea being to get a more aggressive angle to the IC.
You can get inventive with the diverter--use an Alta as a base and add some skirts to prevent leakage of the forced air. Or you could do what Bahamabart did and actually fabricate a scoop and weld it to the IC--very cool. The stock diverter is not the best at directing air flow and preventing leakage, and it can be bettered.

I haven't looked closely at this.... but as I recall the GP IC is basically a stock IC with a few more rows added... Given the effectiveness and scarcity of GP ICs, seems like someone would have gotten good at grafting parts of two OEM ICs together to make a GP-like unit... and maybe rotating it up a bit in the process... I suspect doing the tanks right is the tricky part... but on the GP IC photos I saw, it looked like someone had just welded "extensions" onto the standard tank... yes? no?

One thing you could do is just put a few washers under the IC at the bolts to raise the rear up thus aiding in the airflow. Did this, it must help......
