Drivetrain (Cooper S) MINI Cooper S (R53) intakes, exhausts, pulleys, headers, throttle bodies, and any other modifications to the Cooper S drivetrain.

Drivetrain HOLY CRAP! I knew it would work, but I didn't expect this well!

The lowly MC is handicapped with a less than optimum tune in the low regions to begin with, and although the Sprint Booster can’t create more power, it can provide quicker access to available power albeit limited. This graph shows the dip in the MC’s torque curve; the majority of what we perceive as power during acceleration originates in this area.

A proper tune can fix the dip; Mynes Performance is in Phoenix for a short while longer so I suggest a tune there before the shop relocates to CA. Another option for improving output in this area is with an appropriate camshaft profile. I know of one cam in particular the MC responds very well to. The Sprint Booster's enhancement of throttle response on top of a cam & tune, really livens up low to mid-range rpm performance on an MC.

A little more personal data to share.
Had some track time this past weekend and my instructor/R56 owner drove my car for a few hot laps to show me his line. He promptly complained of my car having too much throttle response and was having trouble modulating the pedal for precise control. I don't have that complaint, but then again I am pretty well used to my car by now.

The first thing I thought of was the SB when he made his observation. I was thinking jeez, quit complaining you would have really hated it when I had the SB in there. And I am sorry your R56 has crap throttle response, but then again I think he likes it that way.

So, to sum up my rough SB application recommendations:
FOR:
- non S cars
- S cars running close to stock HP/TQ
- masking a throttle response/perf issue due to tune, etc.

Not FOR:
- higher HP S cars in good condition
- cars used for the track

To be honest, it is very difficult to recommend or not a product like this as every car/driver combo is different. This is intended as a place to start for someone that does not have access to one to try out, and by no means is this definitive or inflexible. I bet there are some track junkies out there who love their SB.

If you think this might be for you, the best advise is to find a buddy with one and try it out. You'll know very quickly if it is good for you and your car.

My MCS is modified, no-where near stock HP/TQ, already has throttle enhancement as a tune component, and the SB is definitely for my car and me. “No waiting” improved throttle response equals better throttle control to match revs for downshifting and drives out of corners, not less, if a driver is having TP overreaching issues, that’s a mind/foot connection, not hardware.

Keep in mind there is a 30 day guarantee, this means give it a chance for more than a few days, exchange for the milder version if the lively version is not your thing, if you still can’t handle what the SB has to offer, return for refund.

As K-huevo says, give it a few days - the ECU adaptation will take the 'edge' off the SB effect over a few days after installation. Still very effective, but not quite as drastic.

Took Father Deaths advice......and installed one yesterday.

Holy Crap ! OMG ! Unbelievable. Took away all the hesitation, and I have the Plasma Booster too, but this really made a huge difference. It was as dramatic a difference as it was going from a stock pulley to a smaller 17%.

No wonder they offer a 30 day money back guaranty... for as long as I have a MINI, I will always have one of these.....

Thanks Father !

Yeah, I've been thinking about getting a plasma booster with a flux capacitor. :^)

I have had my SB on for over a month now. I STILL love it. I will never take this off of my mini.

I have noticed the "edge" taken off though I know it is too responsive for some but noy enough for me!

After 5 pages, I was beginning to entertain getting one of these until I read the plasma booster comment. Oh boy . . .

I agree with mdbsat. I wish mine hadn't lost the serious edge. Although it still does the job of curing my delay. And as I have said before, no bad comments unless you have tried it.

No problem. I'm glad you like yours. It definitely gives you a surprise when you drive it for the first time with it installed.

We mock what we cannot or don't comprehend..........

There is a 30 Day money back guarantee and you NEVER get that on electronic parts. So just pull the trigger - you can always return it if everything I have posted is not true.

Maybe time to put up some money where your mouth is.

That's a Triple Dog Dare

Huh? There is a 30 day money back guarantee on the plasma booster?

Mini already tried the SB and did not like it.

As a EE, I think I pretty much have a handle on the electrics, but thanks for asking anyway.

That 30 day guarantee is definitely a good one, and something I exercised when I bought my SB. I gave it a good go, but it was not for my car. The SB is a fine quality product that has great value to many owners, but in this case one size does not fit all.

And no, there is no such warranty for the Plasma booster, I just checked.

I just thought I'd weigh in w/ my experiences regarding the SB so far - whoohooo!!!!

The logical part of my brain knows that it doesn't have any more power than before, but it really feels like it does (or at least the torque curve has really been shifted downward). It is much more entertaining to drive with it.

Another thing I've noticed is that it makes heel & toe downshifting easier - before you really had to hit the pedal pretty hard (and seemingly too long) with your heel to get it to rev up enough, but now just a quick heel jab & good to go (I've always been able to heel & toe my wife's Mazda Protege much easier than the MCS).

I'd say anyone who scoffs at this needs to try it first, and also consider the analogy of steering ratio. Changing a cars steering ratio doesn't exactly improve its handling directly, but it can make its interface with you much more entertaining & quick (or less if you were to give it a big bus ratio)

Great Analogy, thanks for sharing!

I have an 02 R50 and after driving my friend's MCS and feeling that throttle response, I became disappointed with the just-a-cooper. I've been considering selling/trading "George" in for an S. Bought the DDM intake but it still isn't close to an S. I'm wondering, if I get the SB, a catback, and a tune, if the throttle response will be much better/closer to a stock S?
I'd really hate to part ways with George but the supercharger is just intoxicating! Any thoughts?

The SB will give your R50 a kick, but will not put it up there with a R53. what you need to get your R50 moving is a good dyno tune. As the prior owner of an R50, I will say it was one of the funnest cars I've owned. I still say it handled better than my current R53, but I have a lead foot and needed a little more pep. The SB will dramatically change the way you feel about the car. After experiencing it, you might end up wanting to pour some more money into it. Even a head, cam, injectors, and a tune can make the R50 a blast to drive. But with that amount of money, you might want tonthink about finding an S. It sounds like you want speed anyway. The R50 isn't for everybody. Hope this helps you.
