Drivetrain Anyone has an Alta Exhaust Sound File?
Anyone has an Alta exhaust installed? Care to post a sound file? Just got an e-mail from Alta Performance which stated that they currently don't have sound files, but will have them soon.
ghui,
just as a reference outmotoring has the alta exhaust as being louder than stock but not as loud as Borla street so similar to JCW kit exhaust in my book which is nice. They claim 10-12 HP to the wheels in a stock MCS and 13+ HP in a fully modded MCS but that seems too high- talk to RandyBMC and see what he says he has found.
I would love to have this much gain with an exhaust that is slightly louder than stock.

minihune,
I felt the same way....wanted a unit that is not too loud but good HP gain. I was originally set on UUC until I came to know that the Alta exhaust is kinda mellow. That's why I am darn curious to hear what it sounds like. From previous post by Randy, there seem to be issues regarding the unit hanging too low. I cannot tell from the pics at the Outmotoring website (how to page). Anyway, will give Randy a call when I get a chance. Also, check out the shipping cost from ALta to Hawaii, it is very reasonable!

I've lived with the Alta system for nearly two weeks now and am very impressed with it so far. The sound is absolutely perfect in my mind. It's got a mean low, serious, throaty, yet smooth sound all the way through the RPM Range. The tips on my system hang just fine, in fact they look great. They fill that cut out on the bumper and really make the back end look mean. The interior noise is very minimal and at cruising speeds it's shockingly quiet, no resonating, droning or anything. Just slightly louder and deeper than stock...until you punch the throttle, then it wakes up.
The actual construction is pretty solid, good welds, nice thick transition plates and nice oval rolled Stainless tips. Everything went in fine as far as the install, however the factory skid plate does not fit on like it does on other aftermarket systems. It seems that the actual muffler interferes with it, so it must be left off, which is no big deal. The only gripe I have with the system is that due to the way that it's laid out, the force of air as it exits the muffler makes the left tip get nearly all the air flow and carbon build up. This is due to the fact that air is going to take the path of least resistance, which is to favor the left pipe, especially under load. If you look at the system you will see how the exit pipe bends and transitions into the "u" shaped tip unit. That is one of the reasons why the oval tip/boxster tip Quicksilver system has been more popluar as opposed to two singles that they explored with about 6 months ago. Anyway, the Alta system sounds soooo good that I can overlook that. It looks great and sounds just right (for me at least). It's in the same ball park as the Borla (not the race version). Much quieter than the Magnflow. Interior volume is quieter than the Magnaflows, Borlas and Quicksilver I've heard. If I get a chance I will try to get a sound clip.

I concur with everything stated by Outmotoring in his post. I've had my Alta exhaust on for about 3 weeks, two of those with the Milltek header. I love it; I think it is just rright in terms of sound and performance. However, you can easily modify the aluminum skid/heat plate under the battery to retain it with the muffler system.
My comments on the install appear in another thread on the Alta. Also, the fact that the left tip receives most of the flow leads it to heat up more and eventually "bronze" while the other tip remains clean and chrome in appearance. Randy's solution to matching the two tips to the same bronzed hue is to take a propane torch to the right tip until it glows.
If you e-mail me or direct me to a how-to post with instructions for creating and attaching a sound file, I'll give it a shot.

Outmotoring and PMC,
Thanks for your very informative input!  Alta is looking mighty attractive. Now all I need is to wait for Randy's verdict on HP/Torgue. I don't know much about computers but I think if you want to post a sound file, you may have to upload it to your web domain and post a link here. PMC...please check your PM.
Thank you guys for being so helpful

Okay, it's 10:30 here..kids are asleep...at least for a while!!
I have two sound clips on the "how we did it" for the Altaexhaust
One is standing behind the stationary car and the other is from inside the cabin. I need to get a good all out-all gears sound clip, but this should hold you over. It's worth saying that nothing will replace actually feeling what this sounds like...

Aaron-
Thanks for the clips. The ALTA sounds tasty! You should be hearing from me soon -though I might wait until ALTA has solved the left-tip-gets-all-the-flow problem.
BTW - can you email me privately about your stumble fix? I'm in Maryland so I could drive to NJ if my dealer doesn't already have the latest software. Thanks.
