Riss Racing is here!

EDIT FOR ANY MODERATORS. We have spoke to Kong, and are in the process of vendorship. Thanks!

Hello Everybody!

I wanted to formally introduce myself/company. My name is Anthony I am one of the owners here at Riss Racing Inc. Some of you may know about us, however for those that don't I wanted to give you a little background information on us. We are primarily BMW tuners. However our team has a wide spread knowledge of automotive tuning/performance. We have backgrounds in Porsche, Mercedes, AUDI, Domestics, Drag Racing, Auto X, and the list goes on! As for our fabrication team there is over 80 years of combined experience. We have Certified master welders in TIG / MIG / ARC and any other variation of welding you can think of

As for our accomplishments we were the first on almost all bolt on products for the N54. Our products have held, and continue to hold all records in horsepower/ 1/4 mile ET / and Auto X events for the 335i / 135i. We work with all the top tuners from Vishnu/BMS/Helix/Active/ LET/ nearly all of those tunes were built using our bolt ons. We are hoping to bring that same success to this market, and are extremely excited to have the opportunity to work with all of you! We are very pro community. We appreciate/use your feedback on all our products. At the end of the day we are building this for you. So please feel free to chime in anytime with questions/concerns/ideas. We can be reached many ways sales@rissracing.com, 714-850-0139 shop line, Riss Racing on AIM, and a simple PM here.

Now moving on to whats going on! We have fixed the downpipes, and added the mounting bracket as you all requested. Before I start please realize this is not an attempt to "bash" any companies. We respect all tuners however honest feedback between vendors promotes improved products for the consumer. We had the opportunity to remove the ALTA catted downpipe/exhaust from Kyle's car who was nice enough to donate it too us for a couple weeks. Upon removal we found a few things. Number 1 the exhaust is made very well. There are some fitment issues from what Kyle was telling me in regards too being able to apply the shifter kit/bottom cross member. So we are hoping to eliminate those issues on our exhaust. As for their downpipe. We were assuming it was 3 inch. However that is not the case as you can see in the pics below. The downpipe measures Less than 2.5 inch inlet. The reason for this we assume is the tight radius needed to make the bend so you can apply the OEM heat shields. We were able to achieve this by using a 3 inch radius U bend opposed to a 4 inch. So we have no reduction in the size of our piping. It is 2.5 inlet too outlet for maximum flow (besides the fact 3 inch DP on this car is overkill for now). As for the mounting bracket you all wanted added too the downpipe. The one removed from Kyles car has a cracked weld. There can be a couple reasons for this. The L shaped bracket paired with a mig weld that didn't fuse. Could have caused in the failure of the weld. Using this knowledge we extended the bracket to a flat with a twist that will give it minimal play to not add to much stress too the weld. We also TIG weld EVERY piece on our downpipes. We make sure to really take our time, and fuse each piece as if it was going on our own car. We then have the shop foreman, and lead tech inspect every piece before it goes out for the best quality product.

As for the 02 SIM. This is a tricky thing too do. We all know that defoulers simply don't work on these cars. Just like they never worked on the N54. When we made the 02 SIM fix for the N54, and N52. We were able to use a pin out to plug into the DME. With this car we are going to try something new and do it from the sensor too the plug. This will hopefully keep you from having too play around under your hood. It will be made simple as screw in the sensor to your DP, and plug the other end in. We are a little behind since we did not have the OEM exhaust/DP to do any of the testing we needed too until today. So I will have my team working through the weekend to make up for lost time.

We have also had the opportunity to speak with one of our tuners, and talk them into getting in this market with us! We will be attempting a quality flash tune using our bolt ons for maximum performance. Once we have all the products finished. We will be flying out the tuner too work with us on getting some serious power! I will keep you updated as often as possible. As I said before if you have any questions we are never too busy for our customers feel free to contact us.

Awsome, everything looks great. Do you think it would have been a big deal to leave that bracket off?

My honest opinion no not at all. With the flex section as it's mounting piont any added stress would use that for a release point. With that said why not have the option? So we added it anyways

if the Alta downpipe managed to crack a bracket, there's likely plenty of flexing going on, so I'll stick w/ the recommendation of having one.

Again, really good to see more quality vendors entering the R56 market & I hope the tuner you fly out is the same guy we're all waiting on to visit our town...

I personally thought the flex section would be enough to handle the stress. However, you make a great point. If it cracked a hanger weld it may have to much stress that would require a hanger. So I'd have to agree with you on this one. (However if you look at the weld closely. You will notice there wasn't any penitration. This is a layover weld, and isn't very strong. On the rest of the welds on their downpipe there is solid fusing. So this could have just been a minor error on their part)

I have been driving around the RR catless for some time, and we are yet to trigger a CEL!? We have seen some raised levels just not enough to cause a CEL. The problem is we can't make a SIM if we don't have a CEL. Does anybody local have a catless downpipe with a CEL now? If so maybe we can get the reading that way. Thanks!

How the heck can that happen? Isn't the ECU looking for a change in O2 levels between the two sensors? If there is no change shouldn't the light trip?

Its looking for a change however it needs to adapt. It won't throw a CEL until its completely adapted. It's a little tricky because sometimes it will throw a CEL the second it sees a change. Other times it needs to see the issue a few times to throw the CEL. With this said we have seen raised levels like I said before. The problem is we have done a wide range of driving. From freeway, surface streets, crusing, WOT, idle, and so on. We are yet to throw a CEL. We don't want to put too many miles on the customers car. It usually only takes 50 miles to adapt. We are well over that.

(I'm just going to use dummy numbers here)

At start up you will see 3 volts, and idle you will see 2 volts. Under driving conitions you will see 3 - 5 volts. With catless you will see these numbers up a little more. However not too much more. When it peaks is usually when the CEL will occur. Example the catless throws 6.5 volts = CEL. Now we have seen this happen yet it hasn't triggered the CEL. The customer had ALTA catted downpipes on his car before, and he had a CEL from time too time. Its just a matter of getting it to trigger once then we can do the math and figure out the 02 SIM.

I have the cel light all the time if you want to come down to Puerto Rico, I also might have the sensor damage!

Hey guys quick update on the 02 SIM (downpipe CEL fix) We finally were able to trigger a CEL, and get the readings we needed. We have already done the math, and will be picking up our materials to build version 1 of the SIM tomorrow morning. We will test it throughout the day. If all goes well we should have them ready to rock by Friday!

Some additional information that may or may not matter to some of you. The biggest variations of levels were during start up, and freeway driving at higher RPM. Such as 4th great 4k or 5th gear 4-5k. City driving stayed within normal levels at all times besides the first minute or two after start up.

Question: What are you using as a test vehicle? 07, 08, 09?

The car we have in for testing is an 08. This SIM will work for any N14.

I'd recommend that Alta send out your CEL fix to their turboback customers.

I find it funny how they buried the CEL warning statement deep in their product page. It used to be on the first page! They'll just keep sending the O2 sensor extenders and probably call it a day and blame it on your non Alta CAI... just kidding!

We would be more than happy to work with ALTA to fix your CEL issues. We will not be holding our 02 SIM fix hostage to only purchase with our DPs. We are working hard on this. Since we know how important it is for all the people out there that have the CEL issue now!

extenders do not work on these cars or newer BMWs. I wish they did it would be a much easier fix!

I was just pokin' fun at the management over there. I had the exact same thing happen to me. I heard it was on the first page from "word of mouth".
