Anyone have their exhaust crack before??
While I was attending MOTD this year, my JCW exhaust cracked between the two center hangars. I had it welded back, but I was wondering if anyone else had seen their exhaust crack there or if anyone has an idea of what would cause this.
the one I am running now was un-expertly welded about a year and a half ago. So far no problems to speak of. If yours ends up being a problem you can buy just the mid-pipe section of a JCW exhuast instead of having to replace the whole thing.
My old Milltek cracked in a couple places and the bar welded between the tips on my new Magnaflow cracked and snapped off. I had them all fixed for cheap.
I think your going to find this happens a lot to both stock and aftermarket.

My JCW exhaust cracked in the same spot - just got it welded and so far it seems ok...
I have about 66,000 miles on my 05 S and about 50,000 on my JCW exhaust.
This might come into play with those that have cracked....for those of you who did not shed the ten or twelve pounds of resonator aft of the cat with a straight pipe, perhaps that additional weight along with the typically flexing of a sidewinder motor just might have been enough to exacerbate a crack in the pipe. Especially for those with a aftermarket header. Just a thought.

You can add me to the list of people that had their JCW Exhaust crack. Its right at the weld in the hanger right after the resonator. I have 65000mi on the car. I can weld it up myself but I think I will take it off the car to do it. On my 2006 the exhaust is all one piece from the cat back, so no replacing just the part with the resonator. What a bummer.
I had my JCW pipe break at about 20K near the rear hanger on my '06. Bad initial weld, exacerbated by the brittle stainless. Dealer would not weld it as it would "void the warranty". When the new pipe came in (3 weeks), they replaced it and shipped the broken one back (Works wanted to examine the broken part). My thinking is just fix the weld!
In my case, I could drive 6 hours round trip to a dealership, or spend $10 and get it fixed locally

$40 fix for me... I was looking at the hangers... bad design IMHO. If you have a hanger on both sides, why not just use a single hanger that sticks out on both sides and just weld that piece-go figure
What is the symptom of a cracked hanger? My JCW exhaust has started making a noise when I hit a sharp bump. Sounds like it is coming from the area of the hangers, toward the front of the pipe.
Thanks for the reply.
Maybe I'm lucky so far. Mine is a metallic clank, but only when hitting sharp bumps in the road, otherwise it is quiet. Guess it is off to the local exhaust shop for a bit of welding.
Edit.... I'm at 58,000 miles with maybe 45,000 on the JCW pipes. Way out of warranty

i had mine crack in a few different places but its cause i have the Borla exhaust that sticks out an inch or so past my bumper. there are a few blind people in my neighborhood that park by braile...really affected throttle response
Just found out that mine is cracked up between the front hangers. Only 40K on the odometer so going to call MINI tomorrow and find out if they'll take care of me even though I'm 7 mos out of warranty. If not, probably will just have it welded.
