Drivetrain New Alta ECU What happened to it?
10-4 Good buddy!
Doesn't sound like it. From what Alta has said/implied, you'll need to get maps from them, tuning/tweaking yourself doesn't sound like an option.
Question is when is it out. Is it usable on Uk models and how much does it cost. Also the boost cannot go over 17 PSI as if you look what has already happened to some of the UK cars due to overboosting the turbo cannot take it.
Hope that helps! Thanks folks!
There is no PSI cap in the car, It has a Boost limit but the Turbo shouldn't be pushed further than 17-18Psi full stop or else everyone will run into big problems as we have already seen. The turbo cannot take the extra power. Wgat will your boost to?
Thanks again for considering ALTA Performance!
USA/Canadian Market: ALTA Tuning Tool will be shipped to clients with ALTA tuned mapping to match the exact mod list, octane rating, altitude, etc. This will improve the power and not reduce the engine longevity.
EU and other international Markets: We haven't confirmed if the Tuning Tool will work in all International Markets, but fully intend to once the US / Canadian market is completed. Once that is established, then tuners in those markets can apply / pay for the ALTA Tuning Software to then create maps for those markets.
Hope that helps!
True. Iv already had a few tunes but they have all been crap or too dangerous for the car by pushing over 18Psi boost so had each one taken off within days of getting them. Whats happened to tuners now, they are all crap.
Well if they are custom tunes, just tell the tuners you don't want more than 16 psi. Doesn't seem that difficult to me to ask for?
It 17-18Psi, and its not as easy as that with bad tuners. Due to the overboost functions its not so easy to tune the R56. And with a bad tuner doing the work you run into the fact the remove the Boost limiter so even if they only request 17-18Psi you can get anything up to 24Psi due to the turbo spooling aggressively, or you get some gears pushing good boost and others being completely flat. Thats why im waiting onAlta or RMW as they are Mini bases so its gotta work properly.
Alta also hasn't been able to produce anything that's really lived up to the hype yet, downpipes that throw CEL's, intakes that foul the MAF, inlet tubes that collapse, boost hoses & intercoolers that just don't fit...
Sure some of it's due to poor quality control, but a lot of it's just poor engineering and the only updates to their product line come in the form of price cuts and additional fine print/disclaimers.
Well RMW's been travelling the country doing tunes all summer on the R56 and his reputation is impeccable. I am curious about the Alta tunes, but keep in mind how much boost and how lean their previous tunes were with the Unichip.

I was responding to another post, I don't think RMW & Alta products should be thought of as interchangeable. I've spent money on both, a lot of money in the case of Alta. NAM wouldn't be much of a "community" if we all adopted your outlook, it'd just be a PR/Advertisement board. I also think Alta needs to be put under some pressure to fix/improve their products and doing so would force others to make better products as well. That's a win-win for all of us 'consumers'.
The Dimsport Genius 2 is a way to access the ECU. There are significant limitations with that product as to what parameters in the ECU can be manipulated. Boost curve being the most significant. Other areas like RPM limiting are not currently able to be changed with that tool. While simply raising boost will increase HP, it shouldn't be classified as a "tune" IMO.
It should also be noted that with that tool the changes are live and can't be removed without the tool. So if you have it flashed, then need to return to the dealer for any concerns (related or not-related to the boost increase) it is very likely the dealer can find the change and potentially void warranty. Also, if they properly reflash the ECU back to stock, any of those changes made through the Dimsport go away and can't be re-added by the end user. This is VERY inconvenient and one of the HA-UGE advantages to the ALTA Tuning Tool.
Agreed the ALTA tool is NOT available yet, but the limitations of the Dimsport tool should be made public to potential clients.

) We have both agreed to not be on the same page, and you left our working relationship very disgruntled. I still think that stinks, but you and I had a hard time reaching a common ground. You have made it your life work (or at least here on NAM) to publicly bash ALTA at every turn. I do not agree with your assertions above and MANY, MANY happy clients would also disagree. With that being said, we do make changes to products throughout their life cycle and concerns expressed from clients do not fall on deaf ears. I still respect your opinions even if I don't always agree.
What I would ask is that if you want to continue to discuss things not related to the ALTA ECU to confine that to the ALTA Feedback Thread. Lets not pollute this (and other threads) with information that doesn't pertain to the thread topic.
I want to clarify a few things for others reading this.

If you have the top of the line Dimsport you have the full eprom so all of the maps are there. RPM everything is there. You just have to build the maps. These are the things we are doing. Not many people know this can be done with Dimsport, that's why they are bagging on it.
As for the ability to put it to stock or add new maps we have a flash tool that is finished. Just wanted to clear up your misconceptions on Dimsport....... I hear these complaints from other tuners who don't understand how the Dimsport really works
If you want to boast about you products without any discourse, start your own thread in the Vendor Announcements section. Since your tune is still entirely speculative, your previous/other products are relevant since they establish the quality of you work.
