Drivetrain New Alta ECU What happened to it?
It 17-18Psi, and its not as easy as that with bad tuners. Due to the overboost functions its not so easy to tune the R56. And with a bad tuner doing the work you run into the fact the remove the Boost limiter so even if they only request 17-18Psi you can get anything up to 24Psi due to the turbo spooling aggressively, or you get some gears pushing good boost and others being completely flat. Thats why im waiting onAlta or RMW as they are Mini bases so its gotta work properly.
Well RMW's been travelling the country doing tunes all summer on the R56 and his reputation is impeccable. I am curious about the Alta tunes, but keep in mind how much boost and how lean their previous tunes were with the Unichip.
Alta also hasn't been able to produce anything that's really lived up to the hype yet, downpipes that throw CEL's, intakes that foul the MAF, inlet tubes that collapse, boost hoses & intercoolers that just don't fit...
Sure some of it's due to poor quality control, but a lot of it's just poor engineering and the only updates to their product line come in the form of price cuts and additional fine print/disclaimers.

Regarding the other items, give me a break, you really have no idea. I am not going into the downpipe CEL issues, or the other things you mentioned. You can start a thread and we can answer them there. With all those things you have mentioned, we have hundereds of satisfied customers with those mentioend products and plenty of customers that we have taken care of if they got a part that was trimmed to bad or what not. I am done here. There was no need to toss that in there.
Adam:
If you have the top of the line Dimsport you have the full eprom so all of the maps are there. RPM everything is there. You just have to build the maps. These are the things we are doing. Not many people know this can be done with Dimsport, that's why they are bagging on it.
As for the ability to put it to stock or add new maps we have a flash tool that is finished.
Just wanted to clear up your misconceptions on Dimsport....... I hear these complaints from other tuners who don't understand how the Dimsport really works

Overall being able to tune fuel (which you can), tune full throttle timing (which can), being able to adjust the boost target map for some gears( which you can) you can make a very fun car, and great seat of pants difference.
Looking at what people are saying about your tunes, if these customers didn't have a boost gauge, and got thier car after you tuned it, i too would super stoked! The increase we can get from the Dimsport tool are very good, but still leave alot to be desired.
Don't think that i am trying to say you can't tune a car, because in the Mini world you have more time tuning Minis that anyone, including us.
like the small tweak to the sheet metal on the CAI ? name one real issue you've fixed in an R56 product change. I've been to your shop, fixing the rest of your products shouldn't take any time at all. If/When you get your product & CS issues taken care of, I'll STFU. I'd love to be able to recommend a local manufacturer.
We have this fine balance of letting customers know something is coming, but doing it just early enough that when customers are getting restless, BAM we come out with it. But on this product, its taken so long that it didn't really work out the way we wanted.
What i can say is that when our product is out, it will be what customers want and it will be what tuners wants. We do feel this will bring a whole new level of tuning, and tuners to the Mini world. Because the "tuning" aspect of these cars have pretty much compared to other cars, out there, we feel this aspect is really untapped. The Euro tuning world is full of all these secrets about how a car is tuned, and how the ECU's work, and all that. But we are going to change the way people think of ECU tuning.
i can't wait either! i have all bolt-ons u make for my engine except the BOV and Intake (i have helix 13's bov and DDMWorks Race Intake instead just for personal choice) but i am not even touching my car's power until this tune you guys have coming is here... i don't think i'd need anything more than what that tune will give me...
Very good write up Jeff
. By going through the code is the way to do it, not just finding maps visually by 2D and 3D patterns using an emulator. By going through code you can see when each boost map is being used by what condition flags it sets in RAM to use that particular boost map. Using the emulator is good way to test what you have found going through the code more quickly. Very good work Jeff and I am sure you guys product will change the way of Euro ECU tuning.

I'm sure Jan could tune it and get some more power out of it - just not as big a jump as with a turbo car.
Well they say no new is good news, right??
NOT in this case, which is a bummer. We do not have any new news at the moment. I really wish i could say more, but there is progression for sure.
To recap, we have tuned cars, but the basic mapping just doesn't cut it. Which is part of why its taking so long. As we have said before, WHEN its out, it will be the ECU tool to have!
