ALTA is nowhere near where I live. I'm in Kansas City, they are in Oregon (I think). If and when you guys get a tune for a 2009 JCW, I assume you would allow for us to come directly to you to have the tune done?

For something like this I'd rather drive the 1000+ miles and have someone do it who knows what the outcome should be. Plus it would let me drive 1000+ miles after having it done.

^^^^ Totally understand what you are saying. We would love to have you in the shop. Just note that with how this works, unless you have some very odd combination of products, we would have mapping to match your setup.

As we get more "done", more information and clarity will be available.

Thanks again!

If you want power now just get the Unichip option that ALTA used to sell.
Makes 20psi of boost which is more than my tires can cope with in low gears and loads of fun when up to speed.

only if you have the older ecu programming. If yours still make 20 lbs boost now do not ever let the dealer update your ECU or you will lose a lot of it. That happened to me with my early build 07. Car was crazy fast until the dealership updated my ECU to fix a problem with my radio.

I also recommend you get a dyno and A/F reading from the o2 sensor performed just to make sure everything is safe.

better they promote vaporware than actually selling crapware (unichip)

In the meantime, RMW is circling the country doing real dyno tunes with nary a problem.

Our tuning tool is getting close. As other tuners are finding out the MINI ECU is a tricky beast to appease and we want to make sure that our tuning tool is 100%. It is getting close though!

Close is all relative, anything more definitive like a production date? If your close then there must be some test results to wet our appetites, right?

We've heard close since early this year. The last I heard it was anticipated to come out late spring/early summer.

Production isn't an issue. The hardware is done 100%. What is being finalized is the protocol so that one tool will work on all ECU's in the R56 family. We can read and write all day (and have been for sometime.) But with the myriad of ECU variants in this series of MINI's we need to get them all compensated.

We thought and hoped things would move faster, and things have taken longer than anticipated.

The other tunes being offered in local markets are subject to a few concerns vs. the upcoming ALTA tool. If you ever need to remove the tune for dealer service, change of performance bolt ons etc. you would need to have the tuner come back to you to remove the tuning. The ALTA tool will allow you to do that at anytime day or night.

If you make a change to the parts on the car, change your location, change fuel in the car etc. you will be able to simply contact ALTA and request a new map via e-mail. Then you can upload that to the ALTA Tuning Tool and reflash the car to the new specs yourself in just minutes. Anyone that has a "hard flash" via "fly in and tune" tuner will be stuck without that being removed first.

Nothing against the performance gains of some of the options available now, but the ALTA tool will have some significant benefits to function AND performance.

Hope that helps folks! Chat soon!

Thanks Adam for the update. I'm excited to see what this new tuning product is capable of doing. Also keeping the community up to date is always great with new development because then if things do take longer to release we know whats going on. I'm already standing in line for this and if you guys can kept it under $800 you will sell them like hot cakes.

can we have some info on what gains you have been seeing on different variants of the R56 model, especially factory JCW's and Cooper S's?

You know if Alta ever actually brings a product to market that lives up to all the hype, I might eat my words and put up the cash. In the meantime 'other' tuners already have the goods and the remote tune is far from this vaporware.

If this item functions similar to a Cobb AccessPort then it will become the standard engine management for Mini's. Since Alta/Perrin has tons of experience with AP's then this piece should be awesome.

The mini ECU is making me realize how easy I had it with my 03 cobra.

Thanks for the updates, don't rush it, we have all come to realize the Mini ECU is something that should be half-arsed. Still loving the alta parts I have BTW. (although I bought them all used thanks NAM marketplace).

Here is a quote from Adam in another thread...

"If you have used an AP before then you are thinking EXACTLY the right direction. Maps can be e-mailled to clients for updates, multiple maps can be stored on the AP to flash at anytime (for example a 91 octane and 93 octane depending on your recent fill up) can be removed for service work etc. etc.

We are continuing to trim up the product and it is taking longer than expected, but as some have already noted, the MINI / BMW ecu's can be challenging.

Thanks again for the interest and stay "tuned"!"
