OS Giken clutch/FW combo?

Nov-Dec '08 edition of MC2 claims there is a new "streetable" high performance clutch and flywheel combination from a company called "OS Giken". The company has a website, but there is no MINI product listed on it. Still, the site's clutch/flywheel description sounds interesting. Has anyone actually seen or tried this new equipment? If not, is anyone at least aware of this company? Any experience with them outside of a MINI application? They have a pretty long list of Nissan and Toyota apps.

Thanks.

Wow. 24 hours, and NO responses.

I guess I can take that for a "No"?

Well, if someone happens to try it or learn something about it, it would be nice to know more about.

these guys use it as well as NISMO, TRD, Mitsubishi, Subaru, and Honda...I've never heard of it but if HPF carries it for the MINI, it must be worth something (creators of the HPF 750 M3)

and here is some feedback from HPF

OS Giken makes a top quality product. They are now making the Clutch/flywheel combo as well as their Super Lock differential(adjustable from 100% down) for our Mini's. I am pretty sure they make the differential(or, maybe its the clutch/flywheel, can't remember off the top of my head) for the new Nissan Skyline GTR, so, if a manufacture such as Nissan can trust them for their production car, you know they are good. If I were modding my R56 Mini, I would go with OS Giken for sure.

Yup, it's killer stuff but isn't cheap... We're an OS Giken dealer... They have a complete flywheel/clutch/pressure plate setup WITH their own design, all-metal release bearing! And yes, you CAN just get the all-metal release bearing - HOWEVER, they DID move the pivot point on their bearing for a crisper breakover, so it may not interface well with other aftermarket pressure plates. We plan on testing the release bearing with our current setups at some point, but don't really want to pull the tranny again unless we have to... Hah! (suffice to say, we are no longer pursuing making our own release bearing)

They also have their LSD available (clutch-type, a la Cusco).

We'll have all the OS Giken bits up on the website in the next day or so...

Hey, no problem, I am thinking about possibly trying out the OS Giken stuff. One of my SCCA buddies is doing a heavily modded EVO and went with OS Giken and absolutely loves the performance and reliability. If I decide to mod the Mini, I'll certainly start a post about the install and details..... Seeing that OS Giken is now making parts for our Mini's, that really makes me want to start modding. lol

Sorry to revisit an old thread but, We plan to be using the OS Giken diff in our 03 cooper S. Should be here next week some time. Clutch and Flywheel will also be going in from them but at a later date. Very much looking forward to their stuff as we currently use it in the T3 S2000 and it's GREAT stuff!

How much? The Quaife is currently a steal right now because of the exchange rates, so how does this one compare? (yes, I know they are different types).

The Giken Diff is a bit more expensive, but your comparing Apples to Oranges. I'm really interested in seeing how it does in the Mini, but we've installed the Giken in our T3 (S2000) race car and compared to the stock torsen it's not even in the same league. We found 4/10th of a second in a 30 second course the day we did the tests back and forth. I'll give the Full report once we get her in the car and on the track. The Clutch and Flywheel should be here tomorrow. I'll get some photo's of that.
Link to the Article and test day we did between the Kaaz, OS Giken, and Stock Torsen.

Before I sold my Mini, I was going to go with the OS Giken. I am interested to see how well it performs. I have no doubt it will be good though. ;-)

Woh it's a cap bolt party there. That's one good looking precision pressure plate!

Are you popping in a new guide tube to go along with your TO bearing? And does that all metal TO bearing have a poly bush like the new OEM versions?

Overall looking good there MaitlandImports! Thanks for sharing.

Unfortunately I never weighed any of the clutch and flywheels together we did here in the past. Could have given a total weight for a Clutch masters and an ACT. So the total weight is meaningless unless someone else has a total weight but... Total weight is 23.4lbs
