what to do to the JCW?

what is up yall... so i just broke in the new jcw... and now im ready for the fun stuff... but... i dont know where to start. i've already ordered c/o's, HKS sqv bov, and turbo timer... but what else can i do? if i understand correctly, the jcw comes with the sport exhaust (wish it were a bit louder), and jcw cold air intake... i am going to order the Alta filter replacement for the JCW box... but what else can i do? i would guess that i could upgrade to a large intercooler, but what about the stock downpipe? any comments? are there downpipes that would match the jcw exhaust the best performancewise? thnx...

why did you get a turbo timer? The car runs when you shut down if its hot to cool the system down already, return it if you can.

Valid question, but I think the blowoff valve and turbo timer are a waste of money. Go for the Alta turbo/intercooler pipes, replacement filter and get rid of the cat (if its legal where your from) and that should give you enough umph and sound.

Would getting the alta air filter make a difference over the JCW CAI?

I dont think you'll see a massive difference by switching out the panel filters. You should get the Alta "CAI" or someones CAI.

The Mini doesn't run after you turn it off. The turbo on the Mini is water cooled. If you shut the mini down directly after hard use the water pump remains on to cool the turbo. You will be able to hear this.

^^^ What he said.

Although, I still find myself taking it easy during the last mile or so coming home after driving hard and maybe letting it idle for a few seconds.

You already spent the money getting the JCW MINI so don't bother changing those parts. Boost and turbo tubes from ALTA(they're on sale now), maybe a Forge/ALTA intercooler, M7 heat shield and STB. I'm a bit biased since I have those mods on my wife's MCS

run your car hard then turn it off, you will hear it circulating to cool the engine/turbo down. Trust me, where I live during the summer I heard it almost everyday...

Do you care about warranty issues?

remember....warranty has to be justified to be voided...by this I mean they have to directly tie in the aftermarket part to the failure of the problem part.

To the OP: What is your agenda with the car? Are you bolting on stuff just for the sake of modding it, or are you looking to improve something [power, turbo lag, suspension, brakes]?

The guys are right; the MINI has an auxiliary coolant pump that runs in the turbo coolant circuit for a few minutes after shutting the engine down. This is the factory turbo timer; adding an aftermarket one will only waste fuel by leaving the engine running.

What coilovers did you order? Do you have a good shop to set them up, or do you have the experience and tools to do it yourself?

Cheers,
Ryan

Hey guys,

The JCW responds in a similar fashion to air flow mods to the Cooper S. The benefits should be even greater as the higher boost levels, and CFM of the larger turbo. Plus the oem JCW cars, don't even have the larger airbox of the dealer installed JCW packages.

Jeff (ALTA2) and I have been pulled to other projects in recent weeks, but will likely have all of the dyno results for the JCW cars, with:

Intercooler

Boost Tubes

Intake System

New JCW Specific Inlet Hose

Cat-Back

Downpipe (to complete turbo back)

ECU tuning is still a bit off, but is likely to be VERY impressive on this car. More on that in the coming weeks.

If anyone has a specific question, please don't hesitate to ask! (myself or ALTA2)
