Who is dragging you down, one only needs to look at your post history to see you lay in the M7 bed. The question is why? Are you paid? I'm not paid by NAM or Internet Brands. I'm certainly not paid to be a Moderator or do admin work for this site.

Honestly, I'm surprised that no one has sued M7 for false advertising because they advertise a "Cosworth Port-Matched Intake Manifold" and the truth is that Peter does these himself. Why do I believe this? Well, while awaiting my pieces, I called Peter and he said in the process of our conversation, "I'm finishing up your intake manifold right now." No lie.

Anyways, JIMINI... I don't have to prove that I'm more honest than you or that I am not lying. I expect you to come back and try to rep M7 without even the slightest bit of knowledge about this kit. Sure, I am biased by BAD experience. What is it that biases you? Why do you feel a need to question my honesty?
Where did you get that i'm questioning your honesty? You said "Cosworth makes crap" Are you saying that is true? Also, I'm not a "M7 rep" As you can see in my sig. I have many other vendors parts. I just don't like people bad mouthing other vendors or anybody for that sake as I think it is a bad way to live .

Hey Jiminni,

You are in every thread where anyone even slightly questions the holiness of M7. How come? Is it that they can do no wrong in your eyes?

Just take note of the sign on the door. You know, the one that advises not to attend the gnightly gnatster show if you're not a fan of biting, dry sarcasm.

No, as in few posts back, "I just don't like people bad mouthing other vendors or anybody for that sake as I think it is a bad way to live ."

Interestingly, you ignored all of the substance of my post. Yes, I know that the Cosworth kit is crap. It will not make 250 hp or anything close to that. The head work is laughable and it was not just disappointing but frankly confounding to me that a company as well-respected in racing would put its name on that piece of crap.

I'll take a stab at that....

Cosworth also is in the business of offering engineering services with anyone that will pay them. I'd venture to guess this head was built to meet a price point while still being able to offer a modicum increase in performance when mixed with the other parts offered in the kit. You don't see Cosworth advertising it on their site, only the big valve version.

As to why there is a Cosworth badge on the head, I have my opinions on that but I choose to keep them to myself in interest of keeping some level of peace.

I don't why this thread should be locked. It has good information. I've been honest and pretty well evidence-based (there is no evidence that the M7 kit does anything at all great).

Now that is a good answer, that I agree with

Yes, sometimes great companies produce subpar products. Sometimes it's because they make what the customer asked them to make.

ingsoc, do you have any dyno numbers from before and after the getting the cosworth head. or perhaps numbers from the cosworth vs. the new RMW head.
i think numbers will speak the loudest as to what works and what doesn't and will also give people an idea of the differences in performance between a stock, cosworth, and RMW head all in one place

Here are my sheets:

the best sheet before the "prototype M7 tune" (the three other runs were to ~177 whp):

An 'average' pre-run vs. the best run post-"prototype M7 software" (whp/wheelTq)

The same 'average' pre-run vs. the best run post-"prototype M7 software" (whp/afr)

There you have it: 187 whp with the only "tune" that they could give me. I bought the kit with the promise of MTH custom-written software included. MTH raised their prices to $5xx and Peter would not buy it for me as they advertised. He was really nice to me and I didn't press the issue. For 2 years they promised me all kinds of tuning options from upcoming piggybacks to custom tunes before they advised me to go to a shop in Florida where there was a "custom M7 prototype tune" (with 8k rpm redline) ready for me. I paid $500 dollars to get the above tune. It did hardly anything as you can see.

Bottom line, those parts don't make power. They make M7 money. It is ridiculous that a head, Schrick cam, "port matched Cosworth intake manifold" (that Peter admitted doing the work on himself), ported supercharger, 16% SC pulley and 2% crank pulley, and 400cc injectors should make only 187 whp with "custom" software. But, they did.

PS: My car made 155 whp stock.

Here are some crude phone pics of the head work. I apologize for the poor quality, but I don't have better. It really looks like they took a handheld grinder and just went to town. It's ridiculous.

Someone posted that same thing somewhere else. It sounds like an open challenge to a well known entity on here.
So here's the BBR challenge: if any of these so called experts can prove on our engine dyno (free of charge) that they can achieve on pump fuel a gain of over 18BHP (let alone 30BHP) from just changing the software (from the original manufactures). They can win free of charge our new 2005 Cooper S model with a list price of £24 000!!! We await the first phone call (LOL).

Yes these are really bad pictures. You are insulting what has been an industry standard for about almost 50 years. That is hand porting. What do you think was done before CNC? Also a CNC CAN NOT CC a head and balance the chambers. LOL you have to go in and cut by hand. The coloration of the valves does not look bad? So what are these picture suppose to represent? Bad photography. LOL (joke)
I am not saying you may have had a questionable head but lets get the complete story. What was really wrong with the head?

I am insulting what was done to the head that I bought for a good chunk of change, not an "industry standard" process. I will look for better pictures but I cannot find any at the moment. I am giving what data I have. Chill.

My MINI dyno'ed at 2000 miles and bone stock:

Dyno'ed after M7 Cosworth kit minus intake manifold, throttlebody and MTH. It has JCW software on these runs:

Unfortunately, the MTH software I added later just raised the rev limiter and did nothing for the AFR or power. Both these dynos were run on Edge Motorworks dyno which is notorious for reading low. My mods are in my sig.

SRTech,

Thanks for sharing your graphs. Yours don't look much better than mine. Neither one of ours looks to be worth 6k in parts alone. And, neither one approaches 250 hp. So, I repeat, this isn't a great kit.

How did you manage that? They've been a pretty big name in MINI tuning since the beginning(granted not in the US). They were one of the first "big" hp "tuners" back in 03 when MCS's were still pretty new in the US. They've been featured in a ton of the MINI and english magazines as well.

*I'm not making any claim on actual performance of their parts, just pointing out that they aren't a new or small company....they just don't show up on NAM very often because they are a UK based company*
