New turboback system from Exhaustdepot

So the first thread about this system was deleted due to Exhaustdepot not being a vendor at the time, they are now so I assume this thread won't be a problem. Anyway I spoke to Hector yesterday and he seems to be a guy who really has his act in order and he plans to offer much more than an exhaust for the R56. Anyway back to the exhaust, this is the best sounding system I've heard so far for the R56 and at a cost of $750 the same price as some companies charge for just a downpipe! I will very probably be swapping out the system in my 09 JCW for this system when I'm in Florida in September. Here are the videos...

YUMMY!

Hey whats up guys, my name is Hector from Exhaust Depot and we are happy to come aboard. We specialize in exhaust, intake and intercooler piping for 4 cyl turbo cars. We have our own in-house mandrel bender which allows us to make affordable exhaust parts as well as offer you many options. The video above is my more aggressive setup. I will be making something a tad milder for those who want something more mellow.

My roots started back in my turbo 101 days in cow-ledge when I had my first turbo car. A turbo starion / conquest. I then got into making parts for the Twin Turbo supra (i miss mine) and the regular (87 years) turbo supra. From there I got heavy into the neon srt4 market (owned the first one). Developed many parts for that market and today I own a caliber srt4 with over 300 whp. I also have my foot in the mazdaspeed 3 market too, soooo i figured I would add the mini too my line after realizing how easy it was to make parts for it and the impression I had when i drove it with just a simple turbo back exhaust and an intake.

We are into making great performing parts for the budget minded people and dont overcharge just because it says BMW, INFINITI etc. We charge based on the materials and how difficult it is to make. We also have high quality parts for those who like show as well as go like polished stainless steel and v-band flanges.

Here below is our proto-type system that we made 3 days ago. We will be offering something simular for about $800 or so, will know when i work out my prices on the parts. We use various brand or products but our brand of choice is magnaflow because its american made vs china and the mufflers dont tend to blow out on the inside and provide great sound. We use OBDii Complient and CARB approved high flow cats so going in for inspection should not be an issue.

There is allot of speculation on here with the 3" vs 2.5" systems. Ill give you a quick description in a bit and have you make your own choice as to what you want. We will offer different sizes so you will get to pick and choose.

3" Down pipe with CARB approved cat.

3" to 2.5" transition

2.5" downpipe with magnaflow muffler

Tip from the back. For some reason i always end up finishing these protos at night!

Here is a picture of my mini bus (caliber srt4) with a front mount intercooler. I had to include my own crash bar for this one to put a decent size fmic in there.

Here is the first one i made with an HKS BOV mounted in the front. It made a nice difference in the recovery of the turbo and its loud outside when it vents but i can hardly hear it inside.

Yes I do. Gilbert I have a new policy which I offer to the mazdaspeed 3 guys who are neon srt4 converts. Scroll down and select the YES option for previous srt4 owner. I might do the same for the mini.

Maybe next week if i have time, I will start working on a hardpipe kit for you guys. You guys may know it as maybe boost tubes etc, im use to the old school ways though.

Another term used is hot and cold side pipe. The hotside pipe are the pipes that come out the turbo and into the intercooler. It then comes out cold and into the intake so we call it the cold side pipe coming out.

The kit I will offer will have a mount for a blow off valve (BOV).

When you create an exhaust system you want the exhaust to come out as fast as possible so here are some questions that will make you go hmm as to what to get, a 3" or a 2.5".

1. What happens to air when its heated up (comes out the turbo)?

a. Nothing
b. It takes up more space because its hotter.
c. It takes up less space because its hotter.
d. ask my wife she farts around here.

2. What happens to air as it cools down?

a. Nothing
b. It takes up more space because its colder.
c. It takes up less space because its colder.

3. What happens to the exhaust velocity as it cools down and goes down the pipe?

a. It velocity goes up.

b. It slows down.

3. What happens to the velocity of water as you put your finger over the hose and make the hold smaller?

a. it picks up speed.
b. can I use my life line?
c. you wet your face.

Hope this makes sense to you.

My csrt4 has a full 3" and it comes with 285 hp. My nsrt4 came with a 2.25" stock and i put a full 3" on it. One made 500hp and the other will be there soon so I went the insurance route and went 3" because I knew the turbos would be coming out.

Eclipse/talons were one of the first turbo import cars to come out by storm. They made 400hp on a 2.5" exhaust. Im sure they would have picked up some power with a full 3" at those hp levels.

very interested. cant wait for ''milder'' exhausts. my straight pipe sr20 is a little to loud for me =] some sound clips on the milder turbo back will be much appreciated!!!

cant wait to see some boost tubes either...is everything going to be polished SS?

and im not much of a magnaflow muffler.... i know its a euro but could you source out maybe a n1 muffler or something of that sort??

also..... man i ask too many questions... when will some dyno charts be coming out? =] cant wait

He's answered that in an above post. He intends to build it into the intercooler charge pipe.

If you want polished bling bling tubing yeah i can make that but its more $

And hell no will I be putting an N1 apexi type muffler on this car! If you drive down here and have me put it on yoru car ill take pix and then post it and everyone will make you their new enemy for ricing out the mini.

Im a JDM dude too but I know what not to put on a euro car.

I use this for my 3" turbo setups like the ms3 and csrt4 as well as VW 2.0T. Works great for me and I have a mini me version that i use too (lower pic). I can use the smaller one in the center of the car and the larger one on the back if you want it to be mellow. If you notice, this is a 3" outlet so i cant put a dual type tip on it, it will be one 4" tip centered or ill make a y with two tips on it after the muffler.

This one is small 12" dynomax. I use it for tight spots. If you want one of these setups you have to go full 3"

These are dual 4" tips. This is a 2.0t gti with an r32 rear bumper. I would have to make a y like that then put it behind the round muffler. If you want sleeper and very quite then a magnaflow muffle rin teh back like the picture of the first setup with a nice resonator in the middle.

The exhaust gas stream expands as it heats, one small issue though, it is constrained dimensionally by the circumference of the exhaust pipe, so the pressure increases as well as the velocity marginally as it it moves through the pipe.

the volume decreases for the same reason as q1, PV=nRT ideal gas law. over simplification but still the product of Pressure and Volume are proportional to the Temperature.

velocity decreases, ideal gas again, as a gas cools it has less energy, energy over simplified again is proportional to the product of Mass and Velocity

Excellent analogy; the available volume for the water decreases dramatically, so yup you got it, the velocity & pressure increase exponentially, proportionally to the restriction. Now interestingly, we lose energy because the water does work on the water behind it, back pressuring the system, and the water in front of it, pushing it out of the way.

Analogy: 3" pipe into 2.5" pipe --- back pressure in the system.

3" turbo exit into smaller pipe yesss back pressure

3" all the way back ---> free flow!

An ideal setup is like a funnel. Air comes out hot and takes up more space. As it goes down it cools and it takes up less space but now it slows down so you put it into a conversion duct which then turns that pressure into velocity to keep it moving along at a higher velocity.I try to break things down so the average person can understand using real time daily info. LIke a mcdonalds straw vs a bk straw. Mcdee straw the spit ball comes out slower vs the bk straw thats smaller diameter. :

So the moral of the story is that you don't need a 3" system all the way back due to the relatively small turbo and power numbers so a 3" downpipe tapering into a 2.5" catback will expell the air more quickly and therefore improve performance?

what about just wrapping exhaust and not allowing gas to cool down as much or not at all?
keeping the gas hot all the way until it gets out the tail pipe: pro/con?

Correct. HOwever i will still make a ful 3" because you never know when a big boy turbo comes out, hopefully the rear flange is the same and falls in teh same spot as the stock turbo.

Your jumping ahead of me. Im actually planing on wrapping the downpipe but giogn all the way back is not practicle. Ive scene alot of customers come i with mummy wrappings hanging from the road debri etc. Ceramic coating is teh way to go but its costly. I can do that too.

Any $$ estimates for the Downpipe alone? & considering you're up in Dania, maybe install as well.
