There are SO many variables to establish times on the drag strip. Simply having a different kind of tires makes the results completely null and void. I fail to see how it's more accurate than a dyno that just measures how much power the engine puts out...

Most people even experienced racers get hooked on the ET, which when comes to winning racers counts.

But when it comes to measuring horsepower its your mph and the weight of your car as you are on the line which tells the truth, last year I run 115 mph 3 times but my et ranged from 11.77 to 12.59 the biggest difference was in the first 60ft by .6540 which effects the et but not the mph, the rest of the difference was in the 60-330ft because the 1-2nd gear change was later.

Look at runs 50 66 and 77 http://www.eurodragster.com/timing/2...r%20Street.xls

If you get enough laps on the dragstrip its good to experiment with shift points because you might find that your car likes something totally different to what you think just like a woman

Well if you were determined to prove a point, then sure. If you were trying to get low ETs, the times would be pretty repeatable once you found the right groove... (Besides Paul's point about trap speeds = power.)

There are as many variables with the drag strip as there are with a dyno, the only "true" measure of HP being an engine dyno measuring at the crank which I don't see many people using.

I would like to see more of these cars going down the strip because the difference between 250hp and 291.7hp is pretty abstract to me. And I'm not a drag racer at all. I went once last year and will be going once this year, tops.

.
There was a rotrex Subie at the last autocross, and it sounded... A lot different... than any other Subie I've heard.

And on the topic of the Rotrex and power delivery.. I'm sure it's perfectly streetable and fun on a daily driver, but...
- I find myself under 3k rpm 90% of the time trying to stretch gas while commuting,
- and I want as much low end grunt as possible for autox.

But then I'm not the targeted market for a rotrex either I guess.

The popcorn smilie has to have been the best addition to NAM in years. I bet if it was a premium feature they'd get a lot more people paying.

if it sounded Honda-like, those were equal length headers you heard. the boxer rumble is due to unequal length headers (many like the sound even though equal length has show to make more power...expensive to do though given the layout of the motor and turbo)

I honestly have no idea how much difference it would make. It may also help with heat soak during runs.

Till Jan has his own shop...

he's at the mercy of the equipment at the shop that he's using for the dyno work.

Ran a 103mph with a passenger, doing the math confirmed DynoHP, ~238hp

Yes, but a given distance, weight, and HP can't be the only variables. Traction is huge, also gearing. A car with a much higher final drive will accelerate faster in a given distance than one with a lower final drive. I understand we're comparing the same car here, but still, 04 compared to 05, different tire sizes, etc.

You can't just say that both cars weight the same (Which they won't, the drivers are different weights), and got up to 105 mph in 1/4 of a mile, therefore they have the same HP . Driver skill is also huge. An experienced drag racer is going to go faster down the strip than I will, even given the same car with both drivers.

Heh, but wouldn't it be awesome if you took your car with the special rmw air-sucky thingy down the strip and without the benefit of drag racing experience you smash the "fastest M45" record?

Of course, once my special air-sucky thingy arrives and I get a chance to go out to Englishtown, I will do just that (but working 80 hours a week with only 15 days off per year kind of kills your social life). Oh and I will post evidence of the unpossible .

I believe if my memory is right the later JCW cars were 2/10ths quicker with the new box but same mph

You can't just say that both cars weight the same (Which they won't, the drivers are different weights), and got up to 105 mph in 1/4 of a mile, therefore they have the same HP .

The heavier car wll have more bhp if they both went 105.00 mph

Driver skill is also huge. An experienced drag racer is going to go faster down the strip than I will, even given the same car with both drivers.

Yup your et might differ but your mph will proberly be the same. Dont under estimate your own skill, once you've broken your virginity an practise your launch technique you'll be laughing, just feel sorry for those others in the next lane to you

No, not that one either. This air-sucky thingy will use the stock M45 supercharger and therefore will challenge for the "fastest M45 car" honors. And, it's being installed/tuned at a Helix near you! Err...yeah, something like that . Eric will be giving me free dyno time for sure, because we're going way over 200 whp on the "heart-breaker" dyno.

Thanks! All will be posted here for the world to see, rest assured! I have business to settle with "a certain alphanumeric tuner" (thanks isellem....you made me LOL) who I paid to royally ***** my car, when all is installed.

ps: I'm not keen on playing games/secrets... I just want to post with substance, in depth, and that means I will hold off until I actually have data to share. This is one of the most important things that I have learned along the way in this tuning community.

pps: I don't want to misdirect this thread about one of RMW's many accomplishments. The Rotrex produces REAL results. RMW produces real results, with none of the BS. That is truly special, and that is why I am along for the ride!
