Blow off valve? You turbo? Do you mean Bypass Valve?

No such thing as a blow-off valve on a Roots-charged Mini. Since the throttle body is upstream of the "compressor", there are no pressure spikes associated with closing the throttle body and therefore no need for a blow-off valve.

Minis do have a bypass valve which functions differently than the bypass valve on a turbocharged car - in this case they exist primarily to bypass the blower at light/part throttle so that the engine can consume air without having to move it through the blower. This in turn creates significantly better economy at the expense of on-throttle boost propagation. It slightly reduces the lag between matting the pedal and boost being generated... to the tune of 100-200 milliseconds.

You can get upgraded bypass valves but mostly what they do is hurt your fuel economy while providing no additional horsepower and very slightly improved throttle response.

Yeah i ment bypass valve
And i just like the noise when i shift.
If i get worse gas milage its totaly out.
i was unsure if it would need to be maintained
as with the supercharger

The bypass valve won't give you any different noise as far as I know, but it will hurt your gas milage. As far as the supercharger they are susposed to last up to 100,000 miles, so you have a lot of miles left.

The bypass valve will actually make less noise at part throttle if you have an intake. That familiar whistle will go away at very light throttle.

Sorry, can't answer about the oil changes. I wish Roots had a pressure-fed lubrication system.

The Mini has the bypass valve directly on the throttle body which suck total ****. What I have told a few people was to plumb a Forge or EVOMS diverter valve from a 1.8T. You can put stiffer springs in it to push a little bit more boost.....

I have the Detroit Tuned Bypass Valve. It gave noticable quicker boost response. Tap the gas just a little and it will go into boost. Loss in mpg was maybe 1 mpg if any at all. I still get very noticable intake whistle. Not hard to install.
