Should I Use Timeslips as Proof Motor is Hurting

should I use timeslips as proof motor is hurting
Short Story

Ran my car at the track 15.0-15.2 @ 91-93MPH 2.3 60 foot

1 Month later I thought the car felt weak and I took it back to the same track with almost the same weather conditions and what do you know

Ran my car a month later 15.8-15.9 @ 83 MPH 2.3 60 foot

I have an R56 Cooper S automatic but it now can't mile an hour a stock Corolla.

I took it into my dealer and told them feels dead after 40 MPH they said don't see nothing wrong. I for a second thought it could be my imagination and that is why I went to the track

I now have a decision - do I use the time slips as proof. I makes things obvious but may give them an excuse

I am not a dealer but I would be inclined to think that racing would lead to an invalidation of warranty claims.

What do you propose they do? Replace the car?

I really think that using slips would be a bad idea and to be honest it would not be that good of proof as there would be too many unknown variables in the mind of the dealer.

Using the time slip will invalidate the warranty. Its it abuse and incorrect use of the car....

I think you've made 3 or 4 threads in regards to your car running a full second slower than before. It could be a lot of factors as previously stated.

Your car at 15.8 is stil A LOT faster than stock corollas. Except maybe by a tenth of a second on an XRS.

Take it to an independent mechanic, have him check for any type of boost leaks or anything else that might be affecting your performance.

Dyno the car. This should tell you if theres any unusual power loss at either the 40 mph mark or just anything not looking right along with other comparable r56 dynos.

And lastly, DO NOT DO NOT take the timeslips to your dealer. They might not care but if they really wanted to. There goes your warranty.

Thanks for the heads up

I was thinking that to but I am frustrated

MY ET was 15.8 but my trap speed is what is really concerning

83 MPH is the same speed or slower than a corolla, civic , toyota Rav 4

My Nissan Murano now pulls my mini on the top end and that never happened before.

I wish it were not true but it is

Take it to a good dyno shop that can datalog. You'll be able to see your a/f ratio along the power curve and other things (egt, boost, different pressures/temps) depending on how set up the shop is. The dyno printouts are definitely something you can bring in to your dealer for proof of bad performance. A dyno is a diagnostic tool and they can't void your warranty for using a diagnostic tool.

It's not happy at the drag strip. Don't drag race it, take it to the twisties where it will be happier.

How about taking your car to the dealer and telling them that you have an intermittent CEL, or that you had one for a time that has since gone away. I had my dash go black, a CEL, and a Dead engine that cured itself. The dealer was glad to put the car on their machine. Nothing showed up in my case, and the car has been running like a champ ever since.

another possiblity. This is more in the area of thinking outside the box. since I didnt read the previous posts. Since there is a Difference between Winter and Summer gas also from different stores. The car may have a tendency to Retard the timing more since your first Run at the track. With my 03 it showed a difference in up to 15 whp depending on where i got the gas. Also check the spark plugs They can tell you more of whats going on in each cyclinder.

you have an automatic, beyond all the usual variables affecting your 1/4mile times, differences in gas, tire pressure, air temp, track conditions, etc...

you have an automatic ! what were you thinking ?! and you're obsessing about 1/4 mile times ?

seriously, you should have the dealership check your transmission for faults and check the condition of your trans fluid, it may be getting burnt if you're driving it hard causing some slipping & power loss. Many (most?) of the manufacturers now use lifetime (of the warranty period) fluids.

What kind of gas have you been putting in the car? (Octane and brand?)

i resent that comment lol i have an automatic mini and i whooped my stick minis butt 5 times when we went to drag race it. i ran about a 14.5 twice and my mini only had an intake. but i agree with everyone else DO NOT under and circumstances take those time slips to the dealer.

I would even avoid the dyno slips unless it shows VERY low HP ratings ... I'd use a GTECh meter and show diminished 0/60 times instead of the slips ... If it was mine with the "learning tranny " I'd disconnect the battery and reconnect it and see if the tranny might be at fault

Thanks for the advice

I used a Gtech Meter and boy are they accurate if calibrated properly. My buddies mustang ran within 1 tenth of his usual quarter mile at the track and my Nissan Murano ran 16.0 and 16.1 which is what they should run stock if you use C&D and Motortrend as a benchmark. My mini is fixed, I cleaned the Maf Sensor and it ran 14.8-14.9 at 92.5-93.5 and the car feels good again. I was so careful to dry out the oil on the Alta Panel Filter Before Installing it but I guess some oil got on the MAF. I wiped it down over and over before installing it and after it was installed for an hour I took it out and wiped it down again.

Thanks for the tips

Yikes, the thought of running the car @ WOT (presumably) lean doesn't sit that well with me. But glad the issue is fixed! I have to wonder if drop in filters are worth it if they can cause such a side effect.

SURE, GO for it, much easier to blame the engine than your launch!
