Coil pack terminal corrosion & Iridium plugs

I was changing my spark plugs this weekend and when I took off the plug wires, I was surprised to see quite a bit of corrosion on the #2 cylinder coil pack terminal. In the photo you can see the difference in the terminal on the right from the #1 terminal on the left. (I took the photo after I sanded off most of the corrosion, but you can still see the difference.) Is this just an issue of not getting a good seal and moisture getting into the contact? What would prevent that, a little WD-40?



Here are the Iridium plugs after 30,000 miles. #1 to #4, left to right. Notice the oil on the threads of #2. When I pulled the plug wires, this was the only one that wasn't sealed completely against the valve cover. Could this somehow be linked to the corrosion on the coil pack terminal? Hmmm....
Any tea-leaf readers see anything in these plugs?

Did # 2 feel looser than the rest when removing?

Dielectric grease on the plugs and the coil will help eliminate the corrosion.

No, they all were about the same.

DE grease can be found at most auto part stores...it can be found under spark plug boot grease if im correct...ive seen packets of the stuff at autozone or napa for .80-1.50 a pack

I don't know about the corrosion on the coil pack terminal, but looking at the electrodes, insulators and tips on your plugs, it certainly looks like you're using the correct plug for your fuel mixture.

Interesting. I just changed my plugs (after 7500 mi), and although all the wires were seated tightly -and I use DE grease- #2 coil stud (original coil -don't fix it if it ain't broke) had corrosion starting on it.
Not as serious as yours, maybe a spot about 1/8" x 1/8", but I'm pretty **** about clean connections and maintenance issues.
Anybody else out there notice #2 only corroding?

That corrosion is the one good reason to get an MSD coil pack - they use brass for the terminals, rather than the plated steel in the OEM coil - shouldn't corrode.

this seems to be a common issue, i and a few i know have had the same issue. a light sand of the coil terminal and some DE grease and you should be ok.
