Hose came away from CAI - would this cause problems?
Just noticed that the hose had come away from my GTT CAI (don't know how long it's been that way), reattched it with some zip ties as the OEM hose clip was a bit too large. After I started the engine and revved it, quite a lot of smoke has come from the exhaust - is this to be expected or should I be worrying about something having gone wrong with the engine?
Thanks

...have you been driving the car lately? You made it sound like this is the first time you had the smoke coming out the exhaust.
errmm, the big black one? Sorry, not too mechanically minded
Whats done is done - so don't overly fret, just get the hose back on. Chances are you have just sucked in some very minor particles of dirt. Unless you know something you are not sharing
.
If that hose pops you should know that it did by the increase SC whine - it should be significantly louder over whatever air intake you have.
You could remove the IC and take a look at the SC side to see if there is anything there but it would have to be decent size debris.
As to the smoke no way to diagnose - cold morning?, do you run the car?, ecty, ect, ect........................

Yea sounds like the air filter was disconnected for a bit. Unless you drove through some exceptionally dirty areas I wouldn't worry about it unless the smoking continues. My guess is you stepped on it when the engine was cold and saw a bit of oil blow-by. Wait until the engine is warm before giving it "the boot".

I have Alta intake. The filter slips onto a flange on the inside of the airbox. I found it difficult to keep on. If you search on site you will find posts of various techniques to keep the filter on. Some tried putting a piece of coat hanger over the sides of the box to support the cantelevered air filter.
I took a different approach. Using a small crescent wrench (4"?) I went around the perimeter of the flanges to slightly bend the flange outward. This made the air filter stay on when I tightened the hose clamp. This works for metal Alta airbox.

Ooops!!! Had I read your profile, I would have known this. Sorry, and good luck. I think you'll be alright if you can find one of those clamps. Keep us posted.

but I know what type of clip thing you mean - I think it's called a jubilee clip here.
